Izvestia: "Drones Set Sights on U.S. Skies"
A new federal law, signed by the president on Tuesday, compels the Federal Aviation Administration to allow drones to be used for all sorts of commercial endeavors — from selling real estate and dusting crops, to monitoring oil spills and wildlife, even shooting Hollywood films. Local police and emergency services will also be freer to send up their own drones.
And what spurred this on? Safety? Homeland Security?
With the winding-down of the war in Afghanistan, where drones have been used to gather intelligence and fire missiles, these manufacturers have been awaiting lucrative new opportunities at home. The market for drones is valued at $5.9 billion and is expected to double in the next decade, according to industry figures.
“We see a huge potential market,” said Ben Gielow of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International, a drone maker trade group....“There is tremendous potential,” he said. “We see agencies dipping their toes.” The possibilities for drones appear limitless.
Ah, ok. That makes more sense.

Can't wait to fly the Friendly Skies.....
...surrounded by unmanned drones.
I think I'll start taking extra insurance when I fly - except there is probably a waiver in the fine print of that legislation that voids all insurance coverage.
That extra insurance might
That extra insurance might come in handy when one of those things gets sucked into the air intake of your plane.
BWA-HA-HA-HA!!!!
Except, not.
Just wait for the drones to be either malfunctioned or
commandeered, to become terrorist instruments so hands-free we'll never know if they attacks come from false-flag sources or not. They are perfect terrorist weapons -- so much neater than a suicide bomber -- and the government's authorizing them for private use.
If we wanted a perfect reducible unit of fascism, this is it....
Ah, perfect.Some 13 year old
Ah, perfect.
Some 13 year old kid comes up with a hack that allows them to commandeer & fly one of these things with their X-box.
Or better yet, as you said, a terrorist group, or Iran, or China, etc...
All this, in the name of corporate profits and "expanding markets."
The Iranians already hijacked a military drone
But not to worry. I'm sure the privatized drones will be much more secure.
The biggest problem
with clearing drones to fly that high is that you can't knock the bastards down with firearms generally available to civilians.
nothing can go wrong with this
nothing.....
