On Wednesday, South Carolina Democratic Party Chairwoman Carol Fowler told a reporter for the website Politico that Sen. John McCain chose a running mate "whose primary qualification seems to be that she hasn't had an abortion."
That was a ham-handed [Jeebus, enough with the pigs!] reference to the fact that in April, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin gave birth to her fifth child, Trig, who has Down syndrome.
Just lovely.
That's what "progressive" means these days, I guess. Well done, all.

I am so depressed.
It's like they don't want any women voting who aren't in love with Obama. it's some kind of a purity test.
It's too horrible.
The Monster Syndrome
When you truly think of your opponents as "monsters", "racists", "dry vaginas", etc. this sort of thing will become common place. Many on the right grew accustomed to saying liberals were "baby killers", "with the terrorists", etc. so much that they started to believe it. When you start to believe that your political opponents are less than human--or at least less than equal--you're willing to cheat to win an election. There is almost no self reflection in politics these days.
abortion
Beside, Fowler has no way to know how many abortions palin has had.
If you think
that being civil with repuglies will influence them to act civilally instead of with the pieces of shit tendencies they normally display, you will be disappointed.
It's civility with your own side that's at question
here, and with those who haven't chosen a side.
It's civility period
not just which side does what to whom.
"Repuglies"? If we don't value them as humans, we feel free to treat them as less than such. Hillary was a "monster", so the sexist crap thrown at her was no biggie.
repuglies
This belongs in the Prog Blog 2.0 discussion. Not criticizing, just trying to jack it up.
If we adopt the tactics we hate, what are we?
And if we lose the world, what difference do we make?
What I ask myself every day. Why the days are so exhausting.
PB2.0
agreeing with a little night...
The goal isn't about getting Republicans to act civilly, that's not really in our power (not directly anyway).
The goal is to find ways to win with nondespicable tactics ourselves.
Plus, from an effectiveness aspect, the Democrats aren't doing so well with Republican tactics. Let's not help them become better.
it's more basic than all that--don't insult voters!
politics 101--elementary school kids know it, for God's sake.
Civility
Ultimately, this isn't even about Civility, defined here as:
"n. Showing appropriate deference to authoritarians."
It's about the fact that we could absolutely crush the Republicans under the force of our ideas, this time around, and we're taking a less effective route.
To be fair, I think I'm quite a bit more on the civility wagon that Lambert (or Lambert originally was if something's changed) simply because I can't break away totally from how I was raised, but I do think in this case this is more about an argument over the effectiveness of these kind of comments.
BTW, how many high-level Dems do you think will be calling for her head? I say a big fat zero.
What we could be!

The force of our ideas. Yes!
