I guess I’m one of the few people who were there the first year as well as last year, and recall the last minute “fuck off” that we Little People received in Chicago from Her Nibs. Gina Cooper opened the event by letting us know that any organized disruption would result in the protesters’ being escorted out and badges taken. As for the questioning of Speaker Pelosi, she said that impeachment and FISA questions were consolidated into 2 summary questions. Congressman Lloyd Doggett just introduced Speaker Pelosi. She got a standing O.
I guess condemning MoveOne and passing FISA along only sweetened such fruits as taking impeachment “off the table” and failing to find a way to stop war funding bills, despite the ability to do so when it suits her on other issues. Whatever.
“Thank you Sir, may I have another!” The motto of the “progressive” blogospherical leadership. Here is what I read today, instead of self-congratulatory gossip and back-slapping filling my inbox from attendees. But I suppose that middle picture isn’t Good Form, and Nanci shouldn’t be troubled with such. I will laugh long and loud and with irony-driven bitterness when Rahm replaces her in the Speaker’s job. And he will.

I like Nancy Pelosi
as a person and most of the time as a representative, I truly do. Having her at an event like this and not giving her a good what-for is a disgrace for both the organizers and to her.
She isn’t made of glass. She’s had her ears pinned back before, she doesn’t break when pressed and treating her like she can’t take some honest disagreement is a failure to honor her strength. It might not be comfortable but if she doesn’t think she can deal with forthright questions then she can always decide to not show up. If those were her groundrules, they should have turned her away.
Bunch of kiss-ass little weinies. Very good decision to put the money into the garden, CD; this crowd will still be around to kick for some time to come.

Yup, it the original ’new FISA’ battle. The one where Pelosi was completely outmanouvred by the right wing….
To say that Pelosi has been a disappointment is a huge understatement — and it clear that she is far more concerned with maintaining her own personal power than doing what is right for the country.
I can sort of understand why she might have had to “take impeachment off the table” in order to get the speakership position — it was a close race, and she might have needed to do that in order to get enough votes to win.
But since that time, she has run the Speakers office as if she’s been in constant campaign mode to retain that position…and as a result Congress now has a 14% approval rating. She seems utterly clueless that the reason the Dems gained control of Congress was because people wanted Congress to stand up to Bush, and that when a President has an approval rating in the low 30’s, there is no political downside to standing up to him.
She is doing long term damage to the party —- if Obama wins in November, Democrats are going to be blamed as the full extent of the damage wrought by Bush hits home, and we can expect massive losses in the House and Senate in 2010 and 2012.
