What Social Security means in the heartland

it's just cruel to take away the little bit of a safety net so many people have left.

Plus, there's another point that doesn't seem to come up in these discussions very often -- i.e., the more you earn when you're working, the greater the SS benefit. So people who are un- or under-employed are losing an opportunity to fully fund their SS account. Even without Simpson/Bowles or whatever evil plan they're concocting, when all the people who haven't had decent jobs for years retire, they'll be getting way less than if they had been properly employed.

So if the administration actually cuts/delays benefits, there are going to be millions of people living on next to nothing. What a stellar achievement that would be for the richest nation in the world!
