What if it happened like this, #5

What if a man kidnapped a woman and made her play Grand Theft Auto? Every self-styled moralist in the country would have a field day about the sources of decadence.

Instead, the story goes like this:

TOLEDO, Ohio - A man held a woman captive in handcuffs and an adult diaper for three days while he read Bible passages to her, police said.

Troy Brisport, 34, was charged with kidnapping and felonious assault. Bail was set Tuesday at $400,000.

I can't say I'm surprised. I've heard about similar situation, only the men in most cases actually did rape their victims, as well, and the victims were usually prostitutes they said they were trying to "convert". In this instance, that isn't the case, but it's disgusting nonetheless.

EDIT: And updated on this bizarre story:

DETROIT -- A ride turned into a harrowing, three-day ordeal for a 22-year-old Detroit woman who police say was held captive in a Toledo apartment by an acquaintance who handcuffed her, dressed her in a diaper and read Bible passages to her.

When the woman broke free and banged on the door of a nearby apartment for help, the occupant, seeing the woman in a diaper with handcuffs on her wrists and feet, thought it was a joke, police said.

...

Toledo Police Capt. Ray Carroll said Brisport tried to suffocate Shykea Boykin in between reading aloud Bible verses.

"She was pretty shaken up after she got away," Carroll said. "She went to one apartment for help, but (the occupant) thought it was a joke. I wish he had called us."

Someone did call police, though, and officers found Boykin in the parking lot, wearing only a T-shirt and diaper.

Oh, and here's the kicker:

On an Angelfire Web page, Troy Brisport waxes metaphysically on life and spirituality in his e-book.

"Ever since my youth, I have been interested in metaphysical questions. As a result, I have paid great attention to studying and observing a variety of religions, sciences and philosophical schools," Brisport says. "I have found answers that I would love to share with the rest of the world. This way the world may benefit from my work or I may be corrected if I am wrong.

"The world is confused. Too many people are looking for a hero, a meaning and most of all peace of mind. Some choose to run away from their family, friends, homes, or even themselves." In sections on the page, Brisport includes lengthy, uninterrupted examinations on several principles, including relativity and universality. He also quotes "Star Trek" and Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Brisport titled himself a philosopher, author, visionary and "unemployed scholar."

When I read that he had an Angelfire page, I actually did burst out laughing. In Dante's Inferno 2.0, Angelfire occupies the lowest rung of the deepest circle of web hosting Hell.

Someone this deranged almost surely did not get that way all at once. The act was premeditated (cruising about an hour away from his home, use of date rape drugs and restraints), cruel, and involved what appear to have been attempts at homicide. The victim was selected because she appeared to be helpless and rootless. I hope that there is a thorough investigation looking, among other things, for a trail of similar victims. He may have a viable insanity defense, but regardless of the sentence, this guy needs to be put where further injury to society is not possible.

What is being done for the victim? Among other things, if she is indeed homeless, there is a good chance she will be unavailable to participate in the trial. Any defense lawyer will postpone the trial repeatedly to try to get his client off. The whole thing could take years. What is the likelihood that a homeless woman would stick around Toledo for a year or two to be sure a sick bastard who nearly killed her goes to jail?

Into serial killing, with the excuse that he is "saving" the women (notice it was a woman who he attacked).
