Using Google Street cars as a tool of activism?
Google Street cars are mapping out the streets of Israel* for the first time (after some battling with the Justice Ministry) - and Israeli activists against the Occupation want to take advantage of this:
But Israeli activists have decided instead to use it to protest a considerably greater inconvenience – the occupation. A Facebook page was set up today calling on Israelis to track the progress of the street car with signs against Israel’s control of the Palestinian territories. So far the page got just over 120 followers, but this number is likely to grow when the car begins to be actually sighted across Israel.
* It is not clear whether or not the Occupied Territories are included in the deal. From the Google press release:
Asked whether Street View would be photographing streets in Jewish settlements in the occupied West Bank, Solomon refused to comment.
