US Refuses Humanitarian Aid to Cuba

Cuba had 100,000 homes damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Gustav and is currently being battered once again by Hurricane Ike. Our Goverment's response was to offer them $100,000 in aid through relief agencies. Yes, you read that right... $100,000. Cuba turned down our most excellent offer. Damn ingrates!

Condi, bless her heart, believes that we cannot at this time justify raising the embargo. After Cuba releases their political prisoners and developes a free and fair process for elections, we'll talk. Until then, there's some flattened sugarcane you can go suck on...

BTW, our assistance to Iran (boogah, boogah, terrorists) in the aftermath of the 2003 Bam earthquake was:
Total USAID/OFDA Earthquake Assistance to Iran $3,702,645
Total USG Earthquake Assistance to Iran $5,714,930

We offered Cuba $100,000. Anybody embarrased?

Try sickened? I was wondering what we would offer, since we

(well, BushCo) refused to allow Cuban aid to NOLA after Katrina.

Cuba fixation

Last time I was in Europe was the spring after 9/11, just drove around the back country parts of England, Wales, Scotland. In casual chitchat with everybody from B&B hosts to road construction guys holding up traffic, once they realized I was American, I got three questions (after sympathy for 9/11).

What do you think of George Bush?
What do you think of Bill Clinton?

And the third one every single time was

What is it with you people and Cuba??!

Cuba will cease to be an issue...

...when the older generation of Cuban Americans fall out of politics, which they quickly are. When Cuban Americans stop using this as a wedge issue, just you watch the national government do a 180 on it. Having Castro out of power makes this even more easy.

But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...
