Why don't we elect Axelrod

and cut out the middlemen?

Talk about Buyer's Remorse

Deval Patrick has not had a very good first year as governor of Massachusetts. His approval numbers have tanked (emphasis mine):

The second week of April was, by the roller-coaster standards of the Patrick era, a pretty good one for the governor. He won legislative approval for some of his long-sought corporate tax hikes, touted progress on several job-development initiatives, and won plaudits for a widely-covered speech on the economy. But when Survey USA went into the field the weekend of April 11 for its regular tracking of the governor’s job approval rating, the results marked an all-time low.

Here are the numbers, just reported to us by Survey USA today. They show Patrick winning approval from an anemic 41% of registered voters, while an astonishing 56% give thumbs down.

A special survey we commissioned with a smaller sample on April 9th had the spread at 41-49%. But it’s probably better for direct comparison purposes to match these results up with the last 600-adult tracking poll taken in mid-February (before Bookgate).

Back then, Patrick’s approval/disapproval was 47-45%, not great, but not that bad. But now, his disapproval is off the charts, especially among men: 61% of them now disapprove of his work, up from 47% in mid-winter….

A disillusioned Bay Stater writes Gov. Patrick.

I’ve always said Axelrod used Patrick’s campaign as a beta test for the Obama campaign. Patrick’s lackluster performance may be what we have to look forward to with President Obama.

The GOP Is Going to Tie Obama Tightly to Patrick

I can already see the ads, Obama’s “Just Words” morphing into Patrick’s “Just Words” followed by “if you like Deval Patrick, you’ll love Barack Obama.”

And I say this as someone who likes Deval Patrick.

i don't think you can use patrick's performance to guage obama's

but both campaigns are testaments axelrod’s sales abilities. whether or not he picked a better product to promote this time around remains to be seen.

Walking a fine line...

So what’s the message here? “They bought black, and now they want to go back!”?

Why highlight Patrick in this bizarre exercise in innuendo? Why not use someone a little more shady, a bit more sleazy, like Eliot Spitzer, to make the required association between Axelrod and failure? Or is the focus here to point out the pitfalls of affirmative action? Mysterious motive here.

Regarding D approval ratings: Approve/Disapprove
OR Ted Kulongski: 47/47
WA Christine Gregoire: 49/45
WI Jim Doyle: 42/53
IA Chet Culver 43/50
KY Steve Beshear 38/54

Sure, Patrick looks like a stinker. But he’s a stinker in a pack that wouldn’t exactly be smelling of potpourri in his absence.

If we want to talk about Democrats that have failed to meet expectations, we could just as well start with those recently elected into the house and senate.

Why highlight Patrick in this bizarre exercise in innuendo?

You mean other than the fact that they are friends who share each other’s speeches, strategists and campaign staffs?

No connection here at all. Nothing to see here, folks.

GOP has a list up--

listing his “borrowing” from other Axelrod clients —they’re gonna use this too…

How Low Can You Go

OT. Edwards to Endorse Obama around 6:30 in MI

What a sad commentary on this primary race. Obama can’t get the win in WV so he pulls his last favor, Edwards’ endorsement to get that “hillbilly” vote. Great. Best of luck with that, Barry. This just makes me madder and those “hillbillies” that have yet to vote more pissed. What a bunch of jerks. This middle finger salute is for you, “Sweetie” and your boyfriend with the $400 haircut.

I love this job!

he's also reusing the "committed Christian" mailers in KY--

Drudge has it gigantic now. And Pat Robertson’s “news”channel has a story — Obama and the Cross — http://www.cbn.com/CBNnews/375071.aspx

ugh—and it failed for him in PA when he reused it also.

Amberglow, I didn't realize that Axelrod was w/ Edwards in '04

Curiouser and curiouser. Boy, I wonder how long these guys were planning the “kneecapping” of Hillary.

Let’s hope Elizabeth comes out for Hillary.

I love this job!

yup--and he reused lots of Edwards 04 talkingpoints too

—i guess Axelrod sets the themes and just reuses the same stuff no matter what voters are screaming for or what’s happening on the ground or in the country?

Why not before WV instead of after?

I know politics ain’t beanbag, but…

Because It Would Be Embarrassing to Lose W.VA

by 40 points after Edwards endorsed you. This is supposed to send a signal that he’s fixed his white working class problem. Of course, that requires everyone to forget that one of the reasons Edwards had to drop out was that he kept losing those voters to Clinton.

Personally, I see this as a sign Obama doesn’t have the nomination locked up. He’s running around boring people in Missouri and now championing Edwards in Michigan. Why? Because he needs to reassure SDs. We’ll see if they’re reassured after he still loses KY by 25-30 points.

We'll see Tuesday how much it help in Kentucky

I’m guessing not much.

If Edwards was that popular he’d be the nominee

yup-

too bad Hillary got most of Edwards voters—and some of us still want Edwards, like they still do in WV.

it’s about Obama’s collapsing workingclass/under50k support—and 90% of the country makes 50k or less.

it’s futile tho—he’s not talking issues and not fighting, which is why we liked Edwards.

it distracts the media too--

which further kills Hillary’s giant win/Obama’s obvious weaknesses, which they don’t want to talk about anyway.

I think you can

Both Patrick and Obama are very much alike, except Patrick actually has more government experience than Obama. They’re sufficiently alike that I can see Obama having a presidency that falls far short of expectations.

all the candidates did sound suspiciously alike

Axelrod currently serves as the chief strategist and media adviser for Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign. Axelrod contemplated taking a break from the 2008 presidential campaign, as five of the candidates—Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Chris Dodd, and Tom Vilsack—were past clients.

Yeah,

just like the media ignores the voters, the voters ignore the media — let’s just hope they continue to do so.
