The Occupy movement as Stewardship

Charles S. Herrman, an independent philosopher and writer, presented a talk about the concept of stewardship at OccupyAustin that was well received by a diverse audience. He has an article at OpenDemocracy that covers the same ground.

Mr. Herrman asserts that the concept of stewardship, a core principle of our legal tradition, has almost completely disappeared from our legal system. "Prerogatives" given to offices in society like elected officials, judges, and the professional classes are no longer balanced by "obligations" to serve the common good. These professions have become accomplices in the takeover by our society by the 1%.
