The aircraft trope
It’s interesting to note the pervasiveness of aircraft metaphors in the policy making elite, who do, after all, do a lot of flying, especially over the flyover states, where all that unpleasant resource extraction goes on: “turbulence,” “soft landing,” “hard landing,” “glide path,” “headwinds.”
Tim Geithner's “Foaming the runway” is only the most vivid of these; either Timmy’s got a way with words, or the boys in the backroom have exposed only the most anodyne language…
Nothing about being jammed together like cattle back in “economy” class, though, oddly, or not.
