The Rose Garden: Obama Backed Off Social Security Push
The White House quietly sought to get the ball rolling on overhauling Social Security earlier this year, but it either abandoned or significantly downgraded the process under pressure from Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and outside liberal interest groups, according to sources familiar with the stalled effort.

Woo hoo! (I hope)
I'm a little concerned about the waffle room in that "or significantly downgraded", but this makes me feel a little hopeful. [Still waiting for my pony, though.]
Madame speaker, I take back
allsome of those nasty things I've been thinking of saying about you. Keep it up!---------------
We can't afford not to have single-payer!
What did Emmanuel know and when did he know it?
As even the Post has noticed, Panetta's attack on Pelosi was for what purpose?
Panetta's "non-denial denial" letter--part of the move to corral
Pelosi and any Dems still wanting a Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party.
Obama wants her out of the way
Or at least, that's how my friend tells it.
I knew
not to put away the tinfoil hat.
Thanks for the link, DCblogger.
But, if that was earlier this year, Obama seems back at it again
No?
I haven't registered for the site. Is it worth doing so to read the full article?
Despite her
problems, Pelosi is the most liberal member of the Democratic leadership. She had a better bailout bill written than Obama's or the Senates, on the original TARP, while she was willing to pass it, she was also willing to let it fail until Obama twisted arms, and so on.
Far from perfect, but she's also the best of a very bad bunch.
Steny Hoyer as Speaker is a pretty scary thought--
Shudder.
