Tearful Republicans heading off to jail: The kind of picture we like to see

[Actually, just Go read Xan. I just had to get that headline out of my system.]

More like this, please:

A federal judge rejected the tearful pleas of the former second-ranking official in the Interior Department yesterday and sentenced him to 10 months in prison for a felony conviction of obstructing a Senate investigation into corrupt lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

"You are not above the law," U.S. District Judge Ellen S. Huvelle told former deputy interior secretary J. Steven ["Three Way"] Griles as he asked for forgiveness.

I'm sure Mr. Griles will be having fantasies of quite a different order shortly.

But don't cry for Steven Griles, Versailles!

I'm sure everything will work out quite well for him. No doubt he will find Jeebus in jail, and when he exits the Big House he will find a cushy sinecure in a winger think tank awaiting him.

NOTE Should I have written J. Steven Griles, Esq.? Sorry if anyone was offended.

And duplication on this story means we have twice as much as any other media outlet in the country. 100% more in a good many cases.

Not to repeat myself repetitively or anything, but this guy got off sooooo easy, by the now-familiar Republican tactic of just refusing to talk until prosecutors (hmm, come to think of it, no mention, in WaPo anyway, of who in the Bush "Justice" Department handled this case was there?) say "oh all right dear, we're sorry to have bothered you" and go away.
