“Braying for war against Syria” by Bill Van Auken:
Van Auken accuses the Washington political establishment of seriously escalating a campaign of propaganda about the alleged use of chemical weapons. This has been prompted, contends Van Auken, from Syrian government forces having military successes in recent weeks. Read below the fold...

Have we as a citizenry ever gotten a good answer on why the U.S. went after Iraq when a whopping 15 of the 19 Al Qaeda hijackers in the 9/11 attacks (according to wikipedia) were citizens of Saudi Arabia? (The four others were from Egypt, Lebanon and the UAE.)
Have we ever gotten a good answer as to why negative focus has never been directed by U.S. administrations or corporate media against the despotic monarchy of Saudi Arabia (our main weapons customer) while it oppresses its own people and enables other despotisms to oppress theirs? A vote for either Obama or Romney will be an endorsement for a war with Iran.
Both evil Romney and supposedly lesser evil Obama are committed to more war in general and committed to obliging Israel’s strident insistence for a war with Iran.
All American citizens should think of this as they cast their ballots. Think of their own participation -- their enabling -- the greatest crime against humanity -- WAR. Read below the fold...

Marshall Auerback recently posted in support of raising the minimum wage, joining Jamie Galbraith in advocating for it. This caused some disagreement among bloggers sympathetic to Modern Monetary Theory (MMT). Read below the fold...

I am presently working on a continuation of a blog about how the Iraq War WMD engineering of consent playbook is now being used in Syria thanks to a cravenly cronied and betraying “stenographic” Western media. A bobble-headed media that drinks any kool-aid their hegemonic administrations serve up and myopically and manipulatively uses its corporate-paid echo chambers to stir up a mass nationalistic righteous jingoistic conviction among citizens that is often profoundly unwarranted, wrong-headed and deadly. That enables massive perpetration of evil on our global fellow human beings.
I came across an Exhibit A example from the Libyan War of how the "humanitarian intervention" justification used so readily and righteously by the US and NATO is pretty much a crock of shit. Read below the fold...

It may seem insensitive to blog about the evil savagery of war (called out profoundly in a recent article by Pepe Escobar) on Easter weekend, when millions of Christians are celebrating the death and resurrection of the extraordinary unconditionally open-hearted historical figure of Jesus Christ. However, to me it seems particularly appropriate considering most American citizens' (reflecting their amoral leadership’s) capacity to talk the talk of religious sentimentality and their incapacity to walk the spiritual walk role modeled by Jesus.
Commitment to promoting universal love, cooperation and partnership? Little evidence of such commitment in the United States. Read below the fold...

Saturday, February 4th, has been declared a global day of mass action to stop a U.S. War with Iran. I intend to go to Times Square (Duffy Square-47th St. & 7th Ave.) @1pm for the rally. There are scores of US cities participating (see list below) and cities/communities in England, Ireland, Bangladesh, India, Canada, etc., on this upcoming Friday or Saturday.
Here is an opportunity to hit the streets and communicate OUR citizen-truth and citizen-will to POWER. The power brokers to whom the welfare of humanity, our own and that of our foreign fellow human beings, is tragically no longer a priority. Read below the fold...

Clearly the Syrians are going through unimaginable hells with the merciless oppression of their leadership. According to Nadin Abbott:
The Syrian unrest started in March 2011, on the heels of the successful Arab Spring In Tunis and Egypt. As Syrians took to the streets to demand that President Bashar Al Assad step down, the regime quickly clamped down. The Syrian government used armed personnel and snipers against peaceful demonstrators. Many people were kidnapped and taken by the security forces, after which they were tortured and in many cases killed.

Tonight on the NewsHour I watched Dennis Ross (former administration Mideast adviser) with a straight-face assert that we very well may be “sliding into war with Iran” -- actually, being FORCED into such a scenario -- because of Iran’s threat of nuclear enrichment.
Only let’s bottom-line it. “Iran’s NON-EXISTENT bomb” is the non-justification justification for a strike against Iran that would set off a deadly conflagration of God knows what intended and unintended U.S. and Israel imperialistic profits-over-who-gives-a-shit-how-many-dead-or-maimed-or-displaced-people consequences!

Everything the Blue Dogs and Republican propose: Tort Reform, Competition Across State lines, Co-ops, Trigger... Benefit the Insurance Industry Not the People.
The GOP made heatlth care a Constitutional Right for all Iraqi citizens, including Single-Payer. Yet they are advocating for the Insurance Industy, with misinformation, against their constituents' best interests.

We don't have a Scaife on the left, who props up otherwise unsaleable authors of fascist poop with bulk orders to get them on "best-seller" lists. The alternative would be that we all become little promoters, not just by buying books for ourselves but by getting a couple (dozen if practicable) extra copies and spreading them around to folks who otherwise might not see them. Here's my nominee for the first test project: The Constitution (Translated For Kids). Read below the fold...
