Bill Van Auken reminds us that the US-French intervention in Mali has been touted as “humanitarian”, “aimed at rescuing Malian people from Islamists.” He declares, “the reality is that the war has unleashed immense human suffering.”

The humanitarian crisis in Syria is an indictment of the United States, Britain and the other major powers that have deliberately stoked the sectarian civil war, and given support to a rag-tag opposition, dominated by reactionary Islamist tendencies, in a bid to oust the Assad regime and install a pliant puppet government. The US and its allies cynically exploit the social disaster they have helped create, in order to intensify the push to remove Assad. Oliver Campbell

NATO ministers met in Brussels today, December 5th, to approve Turkey’s request for Patriot missiles and for foreign and US troops to be deployed to their border with Syria.
The US/NATO War-machine plows onward in the attempted illegitimate overthrow of Syria, much as it did with its successful illegitimate overthrow of Libya.
Turkey has offered geographical strategic assistance to the US- and NATO-backed so-called “rebels” trying to overthrow Assad’s Syrian regime. Turkey now offers itself as a flimsy fig-leaf for craven powerful western intervention into Syria. Read below the fold...

Obama responding to the latest Israeli/Palestinian crisis at a press conference in Thailand on 11/18/12 at the start of a three-nation tour in Asia:
"Let's understand what the precipitating event here that's causing the current crisis and that was an ever-escalating number of missiles that were landing not just in Israeli territory but in areas that are populated, and there's no country on Earth that would tolerate missiles raining down on its citizens from outside its borders.”
Obama actually said "There's no country on Earth that would tolerate missiles raining down on its citizens from outside its borders.”

Mohammed Omer, Palestinian journalist based in Gaza who in 2008 won the Martha Gellhorn Prize for Journalism, writes:
“Air strikes are bombing everything that moves. Everything that moves in the streets is being bombed and attacked. ... One thing that we ought to talk about here is the humanitarian situation in the Gaza strip. This is a situation of targeting a population of civilians, exactly like Israel is shooting in a fishbowl. And there is no shelter, and there is nowhere to run for the general population. Gaza is living in a very dire situation.”

A vote for either Obama or Romney will be an endorsement for a war with Iran.
Both evil Romney and supposedly lesser evil Obama are committed to more war in general and committed to obliging Israel’s strident insistence for a war with Iran.
All American citizens should think of this as they cast their ballots. Think of their own participation -- their enabling -- the greatest crime against humanity -- WAR. Read below the fold...

QUOTE #1 -- US POLICE SHOOT TO KILL
Anne Sewell “Houston Cop Shoots and Kills Double-amputee in Wheelchair”
In an incident outside of a group home in Houston, a police officer shot and killed a wheelchair bound, double-amputee after the man threatened his partner. Unfortunately the object with which the man was threatening the officer's partner turned out to be a pen.
John Garcia is the owner of the home at 4309 Polk where Brian Claunch, a schizophrenic man in his 40's, has been living for the past 18 months with two other men. Garcia has reportedly operated the personal care home for the past eight years. Read below the fold...

So on Tuesday morning Obama shoveled forth his hollow “we are the mighty righteous ones” rhetoric once again while threatening another war -- a major war -- with Iran.
Granted, this is not big news to anyone, considering the massive deaths and displacements, past and ongoing, from the violence perpetrated by the US/NATO/Israel in the Middle East. Also considering the sustained US corporate media drumbeats and an awesomely bipartisan for Israel codependent Congress having been railing for war with Iran for a good long time now.
This time Obama’s lame, high-flying rhetoric righteously justifying the craven war-mongering -- with jingoistic flourishes for those of us in the cheap seats -- was made while addressing the opening session of the General Assembly of the UN. Read below the fold...

US and NATO are huddling to discuss an “official” US military invasion of Syria to bring down Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad.
Obama announced the possibility of a direct attack on Syria at Monday night's press conference.
Johannes Stern of wsws writes:
Senior US officials said that contingency plans for US intervention in Syria include scenarios requiring tens of thousands of American troops.

Paul Craig Roberts recently suggested an archly apt bumper sticker: “Be nice to America or we will bring democracy to your country.”
Our government does not bring democracy to countries. Raise your hand if you are naive enough to believe it does. Especially after the Iraq and Afghanistan wars were launched (still ongoing). Those two countries are two of the five most corrupt countries in the world thanks to our craven "involvement" -- involvement a profoundly understating word. Read below the fold...

Bill Van Auken in wsws in May wrote:
Washington’s closest allies in the Arab world, the dictatorial feudal monarchies of Saudi Arabia and Qatar, set up a $100 million fund to place FSA members directly on their payroll, while the US announced it was sending “non-lethal” aid to these same forces, including sophisticated communications equipment, night vision goggles and US intelligence.
None of this has had the desired effect. The FSA has barely put up token resistance to the Syrian military in most areas, and there is no sign of mass popular support for the Syrian National Council. Read below the fold...

Okay, my first selected title of this blog was a tad too long but let me repeat it here:
“Blood-Bathed Syria Loses Info War To Serial Deceit of Morally & Militarily Unhinged (But Murderous) US/Israel/NATO”

Muammar Gaddafi’s barbaric murder on October 20, 2011 was a war crime. It violated the Third Geneva Convention of 1929 and it violated the UN Security Council Resolution #1973 of 2011.
Will it be seriously investigated and prosecuted? Probably and tragically not. Or maybe a “short-lived” (pun intended) kabuki investigation. But I am guessing not even that.
So when did American presidents and secretaries of state stop caring entirely about international law?
So when did most of America, in fact, stop caring entirely about international law? Read below the fold...

So, let’s get this straight. The United States officially -- at least rhetorically -- disapproves of illegal Jewish settlement expansion. Yet to do ANYTHING SERIOUS to support this position would mean substantial political blowback from AIPAC.
We all know to what degree the President and Congress will sell out the welfare of human beings, their own citizens, and, hell, the rest of the world’s, to protect their own jobs and power no matter what the depth of the sell out. Read below the fold...
