Gucci Fred: "Honey, I've changed!"
From the Leno transcript [DCOW
]:
[THOMPSON] I think there will be decisions made in the next few years that are going to impact our lives and the lives of our kids and grandkids for a long, long time. They're going to determine whether or not we're a weaker, less prosperous, more divided nation than we have been. We can't let that happen on our watch.
Huh?
Fred--if I may call you Fred--your party is the party that has made us more divided, weaker, and less prosperous because of decisions you already made "on yourwatch"! And now you want to fix your own mess? Read more…
Republican Brownback: Forced pregnancy for rape victims
Extremism in defense of blastocysts is no vice! WaPo:
Sen. Sam Brownback, campaigning for president Saturday before the National Catholic Men's Conference, questioned whether rape victims should get abortions.
"Rape is terrible. Rape is awful. Is it made any better by killing an innocent child? Does it solve the problem for the woman that's been raped?" the Kansas Republican asked at the St. Joseph's Covenant Keepers gathering.
Well, no, it wouldn't be. If that was what was happening you, er, Republican.
Anybody Watch the R "Debate"?
Open discussion of the Mob o' Ten Preliminary Tryout In the Sticks. Didn't watch the whole thing myself but caught some bits...and got a little tired of watching them toss my uterus back and forth; I think the last guy to try to go for a long pass overthrew and left it plopped on the wing of Air Force One in the background. Ouch.
And on the postgame wrapup...what's the deal with OfBrownback? She was trying so hard to do the Nancy Reagan Adoration Stare, but she has this unfortunate squint of the eyes, that made it look like she saw a tick crawling on his right cheek but knew she couldn't pluck it off while they were on camera. It was about the most interesting thing seen all night.
McCain, by all accounts, tanked.
Should the House Judiciary Committee Have A Website Run by an RNC-Approved Firm?
Still going through that list from robtex.com, and I got looking at this outfit called GovTechSolutions.com. First I note that they don't appear to have updated their homepage since 1/11/07. Sheesh, even we do better than that. Then I notice that all their clients appear to be Republicans or Republican-controlled entities. Then, noting that they are bragging about having won a
a Marketing, Media & Public Information GSA Schedule (GS-23F-0134M), allowing us to contract directly with government agencies in a less cumbersome procurement process.
I contemplate listing them as a Wingnut Welfare Corporation, Webdesign Division. But then I noticed they had a page listing "Clients" and just for shits and giggles took a look. Oh my, what have we here:
U.S. House Committee on the Judiciary
2006 CMF Silver Mouse Award Recipient
With the complex information that the Judiciary Committee presents, the website and content management system needed to be customized to meet their specific requirements. GovTech Solutions conducted staff interviews on the legislative process of the committee. After the creation of the architecture of the information, five templates were designed in a 1024x768 resolution for a more progressive look. The development phase by top technical resources utilized the latest technologies to ensure the success of the site. The website launched in November, 2005. GovTech Solutions continues to support the site through an Online Services Package.
That isn't all--let's see who else's websites they designed back when Republicans still held Congress:
More of the same with Robert Gates (except possibly worse)
[I'm listening to those wienie-scarfing fucktards at NPR carefully frame Robert "Bob" Gates as a member of the Bush 41 team--the rational Republicans, so much better than Bush, so much more the natural ruling party.... Without, can you believe it, mentioning Gates as an Iran-Contra operative. Just unbelievable.]
It could be that the Republican tendency to lower the bar and exceed even the most cynical expectations for massive suckitude has somehow been eliminated...
That the Republicans, chastened, have returned to reality-based thinking...
That the Republicans, somehow, can undrink the Kool-Aid.
No, I didn't think so. Bush's trainwreck of a presser showed this clearly; all he could do is repeat the same inside-the-bubbdle talking points.
Anyhow, Robert Gates is a more competent VRWC
operative than Rummy. And for those who remember Iran-Contra--arguably, where today's Constitutional crisis has its roots--Robert "Bob" Gates is an old, old friend:
Palm Beach Diocese asks Foley for the name of his (alleged) abuser
Based on past behavior, I don't think it's likely the Diocese would be asking this question if they thought Foley's story was true. (Remember, the only "friend" who vouched for Foley's alchoholism is also Foley's lawyer). Palm Beach Post:
The Catholic Diocese of Palm Beach has sent a formal letter asking Mark Foley's attorney to identify the clergyman who allegedly abused the former congressman.
Foley's attorney, David Roth, said during a news conference on Oct. 3 that a clergyman had molested Foley when he was from 13 to 15 years old. He did not identify the person, church or denomination.
"Until such time as you identify the alleged perpetrator," diocese attorney J. Patrick Fitzgerald wrote in an Oct. 5 letter to Roth, "all clergy that served in Palm Beach County have been needlessly placed under suspicion."
Well, come on. Isn't "needless" just a bit harsh?
Foley's stashed away in rehab so he can't talk to the press. And the Republicans are going to let him out, just to clear the names of a few clergy? Don't you realize there's an election to win?
Choice Quotes
Palmer, who shares a townhouse with Hastert when they are in town, is more powerful than all but a few House members. Members know that he speaks for Hastert.
How big is the Republican closet, anyhow?
When do the revelations stop? (Personally, I'd like for all the Republicans to come out of the closet--even if it turns out to be half the leadership. Healthier, saner, more honest--what's not to like? But it says here that The Base has issues with teh gay.)
Still, I hadn't had Jebbie on the list of possibles, until, well, read for yourself:
Protesters greeted Florida Gov. Jeb Bush on his way to a campaign event for [Rick Santorum R-Man on Dog], and he briefly took refuge in a subway station supply closet to avoid the anti-Republican demonstrators.
Think I'm reading too much into the story?
C-Span: Freeh to Head Up Investigation
C-Span Just announced that Freeh is going to head up an investigation. Probably more details after Denny's speech in a few minutes.
Feeling lucky?
Yes, the Bush mandate Google bomb is still going strong. Just type "Bush Mandate
" into the Google search box and press I'm Feeling Lucky. I'll wait.
I'm so pleased.
"Joe, you should have thought of that before!"
When Joe returns to the Beltway, will he hang out with the Democrats? I think Emily Post would tell the Lieberman camp that there's no way Joe can unshit the bed. But that won't stop him from trying:
Concerns about the senator's return were evident in an internal memo obtained by The Associated Press.
"We should discuss his schedule when he's in DC and whether it makes sense to go to Caucus events, etc. or not," wrote a senior Lieberman aide to several other top staffers.
Why doesn't Joe just caucus with the Republicans? He's helping to elect them, after all.
Is Wal-Mart Feeling the Shift in the Wind?
From the Nashville Tennessean this morning. Wonder if a trend is underway, or did they just get caught?
A voter registration group with Republican ties has been banished from Wal-Mart stores in Tennessee for failing to meet the retailer's standards of nonpartisanship and may soon be shut out of stores in California and Nevada, the retailer's spokesman said Tuesday.
Liberty Consultants wanted to register Wal-Mart shoppers in seven traditionally GOP suburban counties around Nashville. But the request was denied after the firm's owner, Gary Thompson, acknowledged to Wal-Mart that he had been hired by Tempe, Ariz.-based Sproul & Associates.
Ah, a blast from the past. Remember these "Sproul" folks?"
George Felix Allen: Racist and stupid
As one of our Republican-enabling commenters inadvertently points out, George Felix Allen is, well, stupid.
Yet another Republican nimrod.
I mean, how much intellectual firepower do you need to avoid calling one of your constituents a monkey--when the monkey is holding a camera?
More firepower than George Felix Allen, apparently.
And voters agree:
For Mudcat and The Fighters
So tomorrow I'll do the whole detailed post on it, but at Kosvegas there was this panel that nearly came to blows. Seriously. It was about how to reach out to conservative Southern people and make them vote for their interests, best found in Dem candidates.
Here's how it's done, boys. We don't have to do any work at all. We just have to exploit what's already there:
"The state is kind of dividing up," Cigler said. "It's the Christian right versus the business interests of the Republican party. That's what Kansas is all about now."
The Kansas Republican Party, Cigler said, "has been ahead of the curve."
One of the Nests of Vipers
I never heard of this "Freedom 21" bunch before, and don't exactly remember what I was looking for when I ran across it. This page, which is all I read of the site, may be the quintessential description of what we need to be doing: founding groups with rah-rah Good Words in the name and appointing each other to high-ranking status in said groups.
Bobby Kennedy, Jr: Republicans stole Ohio 2004
Alert reader Tinfoil Hat Boy directs us to the most excellent Brad Blog:
A damning and detailed feature article, written by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., for Rolling Stone and documenting evidence of the theft of the 2004 Presidential Election is set to hit newstands this Friday, The BRAD BLOG can now confirm. The online version of the article will be posted tomorrow (Thursday) morning.
The article -- headlined on the cover as "Did Bush Steal the 2004 Election?: How 350,000 Votes Disappeared in Ohio" -- has been several months in development and will contend that a concerted effort was undertaken by high-level Republican officials to steal the Election in Ohio -- and thus the country -- in 2004!
