Philadelphia Healthcare Union Endorses HR676

hiladelphia, PA The Delegates’ Assembly of District 1199C, Philadelphia Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees (AFSCME), voted unanimously October 8th to endorse HR 676, the national single payer health care bill introduced by Congressman John Conyers (D MI).

Following the vote 1199C President Henry Nicholas said: “No one has been more out front on single payer than our union. More than 77 million people will be without health care insurance as a result of the current economic collapse. We need HR 676 now more than ever.”

Well done, Philly!

Times:

In the long-running culture war between evolution and creationism, Philadelphia is firing the latest shot.

Nine academic, scientific and cultural institutions around the city are holding a Year of Evolution, a series of exhibitions, seminars and lectures to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Charles Darwin next February, and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his seminal work, “The Origin of Species.”

And if the Christianists are offended....

Philly, WTF?

So, another Useless Airways meltdown.

OTOH, the first Philly bald eagle's nest in over 200 years. Scientists won't say where, for obvious reasons, but my money's on 30th Street Station, 'cause all the pigeons flying around in there offer a ready food supply. Plus the odd straggling child.

Better yet, they're throwing a roadblock in the way of rich Fucks who want to destroy the city with casinos by holding a referendum on them (the casinos, not the rich Fucks. Sigh).

But the best news--even better than Vincent Fumo being under indicment--the very best news of all:
