Here are some “realpolitik” excerpted takes on Obama’s State of the Union Address from Glen Ford, Norman Solomon, Barry Grey, Pepe Escobar, Matthew Rothschild:
Glen Ford of BAR in “Obama’s State of the Corporate Union”:
It was an impassioned performance by a cynical politician who offers little but corporate tax incentives and continued austerity. Barack Obama peppered his State of the Union address with up-tempo buzzwords about illusory “progress,” but the president’s substantive message was that he is determined to complete the austerity bargain he struck with the Republicans in 2011. ...
Obama’s jobs program is almost entirely a corporate tax incentive scheme, to bribe corporations to send home the jobs they sent offshore, where they have also hidden tens of trillions from taxation – a subject not deemed worthy of mention in a national discussion of shared sacrifice and patriotic obligations.

I wonder if Obama’s face will be carved into Mount Rushmore. Has the universe seriously become that cruelly surreal and Orwellian?
I think so.
A few days ago when I saw Obama’s likeness photoshopped onto Mount Rushmore on Al Sharpton’s show it made bitter bile burn my throat and choke me.
I then managed to scream and announce to a brother and nephew that if or when Obama ended up memorialized in such a way that would be the day I moved to another country.
“Where will you move to?” my nephew asked. Read below the fold...

The demonizing, restructuring, and privatizing of our present public education system not only in Chicago but across the country, thanks to bipartisan political (corporate-enabling) will (with the powerful engineering of consent of citizens by the corporate media) has more to do with “disaster capitalism” profiteering, racism, and poverty than the unfairly scapegoated role of the American teacher.
The ruthless union-busting/weakening by this bipartisan political will is also foreshadowing across the board/across the nation slashing of work pay, benefits and conditions for all American workers.
Here are some excerpts from various writers and activists about the “big picture” of what the Chicago teachers' struggle actually represents: Read below the fold...

The 25th summit of NATO was held in Chicago.
What did it mean? I mean REALLY mean for us bottom and captive 99 percenters in the U.S. and in the world at large?
The propaganda paint job of the Obama regime is that NATO countries are doing mutual strategizing particularly to bring an end to the war in Afghanistan. Read below the fold...

The nation’s first Black President has taken us on the final descent into international barbarity with his drone offensive. It is a joy stick to Hell. Glen Ford
How can Obamacrats continue to ignore, minimize or even justify Obama’s ever escalating ILLEGITIMATE drone warfare?
Illegitimate war waging is the HIGHEST war crime. Read below the fold...

I cribbed the above title from an oped by William Rivers Pitt entitled “So This is Despair.”
“I see a president on his knees, hands outstretched, offering the best ideas and policies liberal governance has ever devised up to the voracious carnivore of GOP opportunism. I see the end of the New Deal, and a far crueler America emerging from the aftermath. I see a Democratic president voiding his bladder on all that he is supposed to uphold. Read below the fold...

Apparently Robert Gates, Secretary of Defense, dressed down NATO members for not pulling their full share for the sake of US-led imperialism.

I want to share the optimism lifting so many for the Egyptians and of the Egyptians, but I keep picturing the euphoria of millions of Americans after the Obama election and I want to warn the Egyptians to stay vigilant and wary of charismatic, say-anything inside men for the oligarchs. Can the Egyptians possibly begin to institute the kind of democracy we Americans seem to have lost?
Obama has hit a new low with the present budget. I keep thinking I am beyond astonishment at him, but alas, he keeps on delivering the hits, farther and farther below the belt. Read below the fold...

Glen Ford has long recognized and called out Obama's determined blue-doggedness in doing all he can as President to promote and permanently entrench corporatism. Glen Ford on Obama’s Tuesday press conference:
Oozing condescension and a certain cattiness, Obama dismissed Democratic critics for playing "games" while he did what was necessary to wring an unemployment benefits extension from the Republicans. As Obama tells it, he stood like a pragmatic rock - if one can imagine such a thing - between the Republican "hostage-takers" and the "purist" and "sanctimonious" Democrats - a party of one. Glen Ford at BAR reminds us that the only "change" coming to New Orleans under "our" new President is the erasure of poor black people from the city's future.
Not a single one of 500 planned “Katrina cottages” has been made ready for occupancy. Elderly people squat in abandoned buildings. There are no credible plans to repair or create an infrastructure that could accommodate the poor who still remain, much less the New Orleans diaspora, scattered to the four winds three and a half years ago.
