DETROIT, Mich.— Detroit families and community leaders will share their health care stories and their priorities for health care reform at a roundtable today with representatives from the health insurance industry.

Detroit, MI is the second stop on a listening tour conducted by America’s Health Insurance Plans’ (AHIP) Campaign for An American Solution. The campaign is a new national grassroots and educational initiative to build support for workable health care reform based on six core principles: coverage, affordability, quality, value, choice and portability.  Read more

“On an issue as big and far-reaching as health care reform, you need to be working with real people and you need to have a reach outside the Beltway,” AHIP spokesman Michael Tuffin told Politico in an interview outlining the industry’s strategy. “The issue isn’t going to be settled just by lobbyists in Washington. The American people are going to have their say.”

As part of its campaign, the Center for Medicine in the Public Interest has created BigGovHealth.org, a website full of stories from people who have faced health care problems in Europe and Canada. The nonprofit advocates a free-market approach to health care, and its biggest contributors in 2006 were drug maker Pfizer and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, according to tax filings.  Read more

“I’d like to keep things as civil as possible, but I think these points deserve some discussion. I’d like to leave discussions of gender and race out if you please, and also issues of policy, because we would get off-topic. I want to talk about the delegate count and the nomination. Fact 1: there is no way for Hillary to win the majority of pledged delegates. I don’t think superdelegates should override the will of the voters, but they have been coming out more and more strongly for Obama as this campaign has gone on.  Read more
