So, the chronically conscience-deprived “Obama bubble people” and the new club of morality sell-outs, the “I held my nose but was proud to have voted for Obama” group, have put another nail in the coffin of American democracy by backing the man whom Glen Ford of Black Agenda Report has savvily labeled the “more effective evil”.
This coalition of willfully naive Democrats have secured for Obama four more years of profound executive power -- not only legitimate but the illegitimate power Obama has already begun vastly amassing for himself -- to finish off the democracy he and his corporate overlords have achieved such progress already in destroying. Election Day Rose
Raise your hand if this rose looks like how you feel after being dragged through months of ridiculous politicking, conniving, and chicanery. Yeah, me, too. Read below the fold...

If the rest of the country is anything like California, we are all up to our eyeballs in "slate mailers," those glossy or heavy paper voter "guides." They're coming from various organizations with explanations of why they recommend voting one way or another on various ballot measures. Many of them are legitimate, but -- as you've no doubt noticed -- some of them are not. Read below the fold...

Cindy Sheehan labeled it "hopium" long ago. Here are some excerpts from Randy Shields' brilliantly scathing Your Brain on Obama, worth reading in its entirety here at counterpunch:
This is your brain on Obama:
Smoking Obama increases apathy and reduces empathy, regardless of race, creed or color. Now blacks, as well as whites, don’t care in the least how many dark-skinned people America kills throughout the world. .... For American capitalism, that Obama is some good shit.

Last night superstorm Sandy’s ferocious winds found Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein at Boston City Hall plaza making remarks at a 350.org vigil during a campaign stop in her own state. How relevant was that! 350.org an organization dedicated to find global climate solutions. Today Dr. Stein is scheduled to go to Texas to support the Keystone XL pipeline Tars Sands Blockade. Another pro-environment activist movement. Read below the fold...

A simple kill list apparently wasn't enough for this administration. Welcome to v. 2.0, aka the "disposition matrix," a bland term for the creation of a permanent policy for annihilating even more people the president doesn't like, as Glenn Greenwald explains. Read below the fold...

I am proposing several actions for citizens troubled by the NewsHour’s blackout of third party candidates. A blackout of the issues of the constituencies of third party candidates.
I propose similarly concerned fellow citizens:
Boycott the PBS NewsHour between October 15th and 19th, 5 broadcast days.
Email a complaint to the NewsHour about the lack of coverage of third party candidates (come on, it will only cost you a few minutes):
onlineda@newshour.org
Send a U.S. snail mail complaint (again a matter of minutes and a stamp):

Jill Stein is a “citizen-politician” who refuses to behave herself.
Dr. Stein refuses to stay in the campaigning bull-shit bubble.
She doesn’t suffer fools or play the crony let’s-screw-the-99% game.
Someone on a website recently called Jill Stein “the best presidential candidate you’ll never hear about”.
Jill Stein is a Boston physician (Harvard educated) and veteran activist and candidate with the Massachusetts Green-Rainbow Party

According to Philip Giraldi, at the end of July Defense Secretary Leon Panetta traveled to Israel to get a commitment from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu not to attack Iran BEFORE AMERICA’S ELECTIONS. He did not get it.
Some intelligence analysts in Washington believe Netanyahu will attack Iran in October. The weather will be suitable and Obama will be “squeezed” due to the election and his need for Jewish support to support the Israelis in their attack.
Giraldi believes an equal number of analysts believe he is bluffing.
Creepy 50/50 odds. Read below the fold...

For me this is simple. We have a giant problem in this country. It's the elephant in the room! We're a Democracy on the edge. We're in great danger of transitioning to a plutocracy: a society, economy and polity controlled by the rich. Read below the fold...

The convention is in my neck of the woods this year, so I went.
I doubt it's going to get much coverage, so I thought some Firedogs here would be interested. The only outlets that were providing quarter-way decent coverage were Indecision2012 (which scares me, honestly), and C-Span. Today was the big formal day of the convention where everyone nominated our candidates. A lot happened, so I'll do what I can to break it down... Read below the fold...

Sometimes people object to the idea of the President ordering minting a $1 Trillion proof platinum coin on political grounds, even though they believe it's: legal to mint such a coin, won't be inflationary, and will allow the President to avoid the debt ceiling crisis. Robert Rice offered the following as part of a longer comment on a post of Beowulf's: Read below the fold...
