I'd like to believe this stuff is just the handiwork of GOP trolls. If that were true, then where did the good Democrats -- who should be repudiating this trash -- go?

... refers to this. I actually missed the glasses iconography until now. Jeralyn did call Palin a pig -- in imagery. Sad.

A post by an Iris.

Whenever I see stuff like this I can't help but imagine what would the OFB would be saying if someone called Obama an indentity-specific slur. But then I remember that I don't even have to imagine, because I see what they do when they precieve anything as a slight to their candidate, no matter how much and how irrationally they have to bend it to make it so.

Anyone see the OFB's newest off limits slur/smear is against Obama? Criticizing his community organizing. Yes, describing his community organizing in anything less than a favorable way equals a racist taunt.

I believe the issue is that the Republicans weren't just criticizing Obama's organizing, they were mocking (during the convention) the very concept of community organizer as a form of work.

I'm afraid I really easily see the racist slur in that.

The line was that being a mayor is a lot like being a community organizer, "except with actual reponsibilities."

And it's a zinger, but it's true that the mayor is accountable to the voters, as the organizer is not.

So, unless we're in "all criticism of Obama is racist" mode, I don't see it.

There were a lot of "what the heck is that???" sneers on the community organizer concept. It's an "Oh those urban-read-black people and their welfarebummery" kind of joke.

Used to evoke infinite respect, regardless of the details. Unfortunately for Obama, Dems (Wesley Clark notwithstanding) are afraid to go near the POW lightning rod, while the Repubs will gleefully attack community organizer.

There is certainly a racial dimension in the glow it's supposed to give Obama, so attacks on it are liable to be adjudged racist, just as attacks on McCain's POW story are liable to be adjudged unpatriotic.

Blame BHO for turning "community organizer" into a punchline himself. For months, no one was forthcoming with what he actually DID as a CO, and as near as anyone can make out, this meant he ran a voter-registration drive (although by all accounts, very competently, very successfully, and to good effect). It's (important, yes) political shit-work, which he tried to buff into something impressive sounding.

So, yeah - same old GOP antipathy to urban activism, sure. But we all heard this line so many damn times (during primary season when the GOP had nothing to do) that the fact that he was a community organizer "in the shadows of steel mills" came this close to becoming a drinking game in our own very blue house.

What's been done to the comment sections isn't nearly as brutal as what Kos did. The postings, though...
