If you have "no place to go," come here!

So what do people who want a functioning government do...

... after the oligarchy and the legacy parties have finished destroying the government we had?

Take a tip from the Egyptians, and self-organize?

Make a very specific list of demands... including throwing out all in positions of leadership now. Entire executive and legislative branch... probably courts too.... at least a third of all judges each year.. till all replaced.

Break up banks, bring troops home, close 95 percent of bases while dismantling 90 percent of all our "intel" apparatus.

Place all government info online immediately.. end government secrecy, all of it.

Reform election law, beginning with public only party, campaign and lobby finance... while wiping out the electoral college.

New fairness doctrine.

Lower SS retirement age to 62 or lower.

End corporate personhood.

Double the minimum wage.. with promise of triple in a few short years... getting Americans up to a living standard the minimum wage provided in early 70's.

establish the best health care for all system in the world... instead of assuring we remain the worst in the developed world on nearly every metric.

Rewrite every trade agreement to include environmental, safety, labor, health and retirement, etc. considerations... there is no reason to trade "freely" with those who do not honor themselves in such a manner.

Government also needs to establish green energy infrastructure as if it were the national/global emergency we all know it is.

restore strong bankruptcy protections.

cram down consumer debt, massively, if not entirely.

Build out fiber internet to every home and business which already has a land phone or electric line.

implement massive public transit infrastructure.

tax the rich like it's 1959.

Guarantee at least the first four years of college/vocational education as if it were K thru 12.

and on and on.

Right you are, Kathryn. It's easier said than done, of course. But capital is using the oldest trick in the book -- "Divide and Conquer" -- against labor. Transnational capital can only be resisted on a transnational scale. A daunting challenge, but there is no real alternative. Improving the lot of workers in the 'designated sweatshop' countries has become a necessary ingredient in any strategy to reverse the decline here in the U.S.

It's the same story on environmental issues. So there are multiple reasons to work in this direction.

presumably, by 'all govt info' you don't mean publishing people's names, addresses, social security numbers, medicare payments made to their doctors, hospitals, pharmacies, and what the payments were for, etc...

agree with the rest of your list.

I mean all cables, discussions, budgets, transactions, contracts, proposals... full transparency. It should be considered treasonous to conduct our affairs in secret.... especially in term of foreign policy.

Citizens deserve right to privacy, not government.
