Local group presses for single-payer health-care plan

Local proponents of a single-payer health-care system will meet Tuesday to plan a "birthday" party for the Medicare system at U.S. Rep. John Salazar's Pueblo office.

Anne Courtright, founder of Pueblo's Health Care for All Committee, said the event at Salazar's office set for 10 a.m. July 31 (the 43rd anniversary of the federal Medicare system) is intended to cement his support for HR676.

our local State Senator, Jim Ferlo, is sponsoring a Medicare birthday lunch along with Western PA Coalition for Single-Payer Healthcare, Healthcare4AllPa, SEIU Healthcare Pennsylvania, Alliance for Retired Americans (ARA), and the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses & Allied Professionals (PASNAP).

He is staunch for single payer.

Pols are pols but some are more pol than others.

If any Pittsburghers are lurking, you can sign up by calling 412-621-3006 no later than July 25 or by email at ferlo@pasenate.com.
