Just moments ago, during his closing remarks (in a senatorial debate with former Virginia Governor George Allen) former Virginia Governor Tim Kaine (D) pledged to join the Gang of Six (Eight?) to "implement austerity measures" (my words). Obviously, he would say that he wants to be part of the solution to reign in the deficit.

Just some food for thought, since this race is so tight that it's been called a "toss up" by Real Clear Politics.
