If you have "no place to go," come here!

Senate blocks TPP on cloture vote

Of course, as with TARP, the leadership can come back with a Christmas-tree bill, treating this vote as an open invitation to sausage-making (to mix metaphors horribly).

But it is a victory for the good guys, so let's treat it as such.

And as Ian Welsh has said (paraphrasing): "The left must defeat Obama, and be seen to." That's clearly what happened here. Yay!

I don't know if there's a whip count out there (or even the whole theory of blogs doing them) but if you look at this list of Democrats:

Any one of them could turn a dime. So it will be interesting to see which of these Democrats betrays first.

For once it appears that something good happened, or at least the impending bad thing didn't happen, or at least it hasn't happened yet. The words seem to be sticking in my keyboard. For once the Democrats actually did something good. I find that I'm really not psychologically equipped to deal with a moment like this and don't know what to feel, much less what to say about it.

They're up to something, I'm sure of it.

1) But it's important that they dealt Obama a defeat, even symbolically. Practice makes perfect, after all.

2) I read that the sticking point is Chinese currency manipulation -- among Democrats. Which is interesting because that's a Republican issue, too. Further, I don't think it will be all that easy for the White House to give that to them.

So the sausage-making may be uglier than we think.

Also, the sticking point is not screwing over labor. Shocker, huh?
