Obviously very few of you have ever read a automobile magazine, a motorcycle magazine, or have ever heard of AFX, Moose Racing, Dennis Kirk, Arctiva, Arvin, Altimate, HJC – seriously. Am I the only one that has seen chicks with guns or car porn. Guess what? Governor Palin, the beauty queen, fits the bill and she is using it; the sexy girl who isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty routine, to draw public opinion. Get over it. It’s not mean (though BIO I appreciate the very diplomatic way you addressed you concerns) it’s the truth.
Call me old fashioned, but I still believe that you can’t make real friends at a play date. Hint: those are the children of your mother’s drinking buddies. Children have play dates because their parents are either smothering or too neurotic to let them go out and play. Yes – play dates suck, if you drive an SUV and don’t haul at least a half a ton of shit behind it or have five or more kids, you suck. It was called a mini van, a station wagon or a sedan. Please don’t get me started on single professionals with SUV’s.
Finally, and I quote:
US News:
Much of the shift toward McCain stems from gains among white women, voters his team hoped to sway with the pick of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his vice presidential candidate. White women shifted from an eight-point pre-convention edge for Obama to a 12-point McCain advantage now.
ABC:
Some of McCain's biggest gains in this ABC News/Washington Post poll are among white women , a group to which "hockey mom" Sarah Palin has notable appeal
So yeah, I’m a little curious about the condition of the margin of victory. And yeah if it goes to McCain, until I hear an argument for why he will be a better diplomat than Obama, I’m going to assume race played a part in the decision. Please don’t tell me you think people vote on the issues.

Ouch!
Teresa seems to have recovered...

"First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win." -- Mahatma Gandhi
Ironic?
Exhibit A) from Teresa, about Palin: Have you ever dealt with a full-blown narcissist? “Self-centered” is too mild a description. They’ve got a weirdly information-deprived worldview; they can’t process criticism, failure, or noncompliance; and they have a constant need for external validation of their grandiose self-images. It can lead them to do amazingly stupid things.
Exhibit B): http://obamamessiah.blogspot.com/
Ho hum.
So yeah, I’m a little curious about the condition of the margin of victory.
Might want to take a look at the margin of error of those polls you're citing -- or rather, the polls cited by the articles you're citing. Not to mention the sample size. I left a link to the Daily Howler in the other thread where you were trafficking in sexist stereotypes to set up white women to take the blame for Obama's lousy performance.
Why are you continuing to blame white women for Obama's failure to do better? Why aren't you putting *any* responsibility on Obama?
Really, the same old saw. Now with extra justifcation for misogyny! Because, you know, that's "just how it is."
Somehow, I doubt that you'd appreciate it if someone used racial stereotypes to say that Obama was some kind of token candidate chosen because of, say, his basketball skills or his sexual prowess and then defended the choice because, well, that's how black folks really are, that's just how it is. "Ge" over it.
So, Because Some White Women...
...self-identify with Palin that makes them racist? Quite a leap, no? If A = B, then B = C. lol
I'm going to hate having to break the news to my black brothers and sisters that their self-identification with Obama is also racist. Man, will they be devastated.
But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...
palin and obama
both play a mean game of bball, and neither minds throwing a few sharp elbows, on the court or in the political arena. so between them what it comes down to is she goes out and hunts down her own mooseburgers and he goes to whole foods and buys his own arugula.
yeah, sounds like a race thing to me.
Dear Zuzu
For Obama? I just think he's least likely to have flash back with his hand on the button. I've been away for a while, granted, but have you read my blog?
self-identify with Palin
Dear DamonMI,
I don't really care who you self idenitfy with it's a free country (not really). Odds are if you're american, if you call your self american, if you have live in the US for more than five years and assimilated to the culture,if you use the categories of identification white, black, hispanic, other, native american, you are a racist. Can't really get away from it. It's hardwired into the system. That is how folk get to be white and black. Furthermore if you read my blog you will see that racial discrimination is a subconscious phenomen of our (those of american culture)system of discernment and judgement. The only way to deal with an inherent racial bias is to actively make decisions with the bias in mind. So those people who say "but I'm not racist" are so deep in denial ...
Why are you continuing to blame white women for Obama’s failure
I never blamed them for that. I simply implied that if he is defeated it will be because he failed to convince that demographic. White women happen to be the key block in this election right now. It was white men, but Palin changed it. Now it's white women.
And what stereotypes are you talking about in particular?
It's white WOMEN
not white MEN because WOMEN are repelled by the extreme misogyny of Obama and the DNC. Women are fleeing the Democratic Party's misogyny.
Xenophon, you tagged the wrong -ism.
If it were RACISM
white men and women would be fleeing the Democratic Party in equal numbers.
You have hit the nail on the head
It's the misogyny, not racism.
Why is it that so many folks don't get that? It's as though they think that what women deal with on a daily basis is irrelevant to how they vote.
Amazing how racism is accepted as something you shouldn't "get over" but should be dealt with and counteracted, but misogyny is seen as something that we should just live with regardless.
"A little knowledge is a dangerous thing. So is a lot." - Albert Einstein
Ok. Here's a question for you.
If he was white with the same resume and behavior, would you vote for him?
And if your answer is yes, I want to know why. And then explain to me why you didn't support Kucinich.

MANKIND HATER!!!!!
Why don't all the racist screamers just pull out all the stops.
IF YOU DON'T VOTE FOR OBAMA, YOU HATE MANKIND!!!!!
Jesus, this garbage is pathetic.
If you don't support Obama, you hate black people.
So does it also mean that you hate hispanics if you didn't vote for Richardson? Did you support Carol Mosley Braun last election?
I'm assuming the darker skinned people we're allowed to support have to be liberals, right?...if we don't support a black republican, it's because we don't support their policies, right? But if we don't support Obama's positions and behavior, it's different. Ok. i think i get it.
"If we have to have a dictator, who better than Obama"
- progressive blog commentator
Oh, lordy. Keep batting those big doe eyes.
I never blamed them for that. I simply implied that if he is defeated it will be because he failed to convince that demographic.
Uh-huh. Right, and all that sneering about pissed-off white women, soccer moms and their "friends" and their SUVs and arctic Barbie and gun-babe porn have nothing to do with anything. You're totally a babe in the woods here. You never said anything like, "I’m going to assume race played a part in the decision [if Obama loses]."
Are you aware, even, that Obama is currently leading among white women in the latest CBS poll? That any swing away from him is now over, even if it was a true swing and not just a function of the margin of error?
And maybe ask yourself if there's maybe just possibly a reason that Obama might not be doing as well as you'd like him to be doing among white women other than racism. Such as not saying a damn word about contraception or the attempt to change the rules at HHS so that contraception and other forms of reproductive health care will be next to impossible to get if anyone in a medical office or pharmacy objects. Or simply assuming that he has their votes and being put out when they wouldn't just get in line. Or letting his supporters be complete misogynistic asswipes without saying anything.
And, seriously, you're going to ask me what stereotypes you have in mind when you discuss a vice-presidential candidate as some kind of soft-porn cover girl? I don't care how much of a conservative freak she is, that shit's damaging to all women.
Double post

None of the republican voting, typical white women I know
hit the drive-thu Starbucks while taking kids to playdates.
That could be part of the problem with this, um, analysis...
Seems like it is a great way to alienate the very swing voters needed to secure an obama win.
As for the white men...
They fled the Democratic Party 40 years ago. Just sayin'...
...for the rest of us
...for the rest of us
No
Scout,
Obama supporters don't comprehend English. You say the same two things over and over, that it was the corruption and misogyny, or, misogyny and corruption, of the primary that turned Clinton supporters away from Obama and they don't hear you. So if Obama were a corrupt, misogynist white man, we wouldn't vote for him either.
The answer is, obviously, no.
Xenophon
And the McCain campaign totally reached out to Clinton supporters, nominated a woman VP and suddenly looks like the woman-friendly party which may be why women are fleeing the Democratic Party. They have a place to go.
Naw, they have a con to fall for, if they want it ...
and in a world where "Desperate Housewives" is a cultural phenomenon (give me strength, FSM) it may be that there's a group of people who really are that short-sighted, self-centered, and ... sad.
Wouldn't you rather be part of about any other group?
We can admit that we’re killers … but we’re not going to kill today. That’s all it takes! ~ Captain James T. Kirk, Stardate 3193.0

sure, but...
Wouldn’t you rather be part of about any other group?
if the following scenario plays out over the next few years --
as a foaming at the mouth rabid militant progressive feminist, which party should i join and subvert to ultimately achieve my evil agenda? that agenda being a party that promotes both women and progressive [or liberal] causes.
Deaf
Here we are again with Obama supporters who don't understand English. Clinton supporters talk nonstop about what a con Obama is. He's a bigger con because he's a Democrat (In Name Only) pulling the wool over Democrats' eyes. Dean-Obama is a bizarre cult.
Well, you would have to *believe*
that 'progressive' policies would actually be put in place to even go there.
Political parties cannot be subverted
They can only be bought...
...for the rest of us
...for the rest of us
You don't think
1) the derailing of the campaign of the only woman who could be President for the next twenty years
2) the egregious sexism of the primary
3) VP Palin
4) the egregious sexism against Palin
5) McCain heavily courting PUMAs who are mostly women and GLBT
has anything to do with white women not voting for Obama?
Gender not race issues are the reason white women are not voting for Obama.
How can any woman believe
her interests will be protected with obama?
Us low information voters have seen a typical white woman flipped the bird by her opponent. We have seen typical white women kept out of caucuses. We have seen complete and utter disrespect for women who take care of children or have them later in life.
McCain has women in high level positions - obama has a speech.
Really, to put things in perspective, calling typical white women racist is probably one of the nicer things we've been called by obama, his campaign, surrogates or supporters.
"Obama is currently leading among white women"
So what you're saying is "the fate of the nation is going to come down to the decision of white women"
No.
Nice try, though.
Can't hang it on any one particular group, and certainly not the way you want to.
Where else do you see volatility?
they are the only group in play - everyone else is pretty much decided. all that fluctuation in the polls guess who?
Or do you mean to make the argument that the republicans are more "understanding of women than democrats."
or maybe it's the issues.
Women seem to feel that way about THIS particular Republican.
Er, um, women themselves seem to think so:
Lifted from:

McCain has women in high level positions (you're kidding right?)
You do realize there are women in Obama's campaign and after Fiorina got bounced I think he has more than McCain. Hell, I won't even count Michelle. This is why I asked how pissed are you? McCain is worse on women's issues, hell Palin is worse on women's issues. You realize she is running for VP. Which means she gets to break a tie, and go do public relations. Dick Cheney she ain't. And McCain has so much confidence in her that the only way she gets to run the show is if he's dead and gone (come on just say t with me - tokenism). So clearly the decision isn't one of ploicy. So we'll put sexism first.
And For the record, I am not for Obama, I'm not a surrogate, on his campaign, or even a supporter. I just want to see which way the vote goes so I know ...
Closing the door on abortion slowly, by "consensus", is bad.
Obama thinks a pregnant woman's word that she's "feeling blue" shouldn't be enough to get her that late-term abortion she's always wanted.
The thing with abortion is - you can either get one or you can't, and another few weeks makes a really big difference. Do men - even men who have actually, you know - DONE IT - really know what we're talking about here? Do nuanced shades of gray count?
The Obamacrat Party now seems to have successfully convinced a lot of women that the only person who could possibly "get it" is a person with a vagina - even a person as insane and unhelpful in this regard as Palin.
Thanks, Barry.
women themselves seem to think so
I agree. It's bullshit but hey ... who ever said issues and policy matter in politics.
Silly women.
Do you really think rabid Hillary-lovers were the only ones hearing "sweetie" and "periodically" and "feeling blue" this election season?
Do you really think only women of one political stripe know what that says about the man saying these things?
PUMAs
are the volatile group and yes, we're pissed. Many are voting McCain-Palin for the reasons I listed above, pertaining to gender. I am abstaining.
