Rumsfeld, Visiting France, Hit With Torture Charges

Sarah's picture

Scathing indictment of USer "justice system"incorporated:
(Michael) Ratner said his group had tried to take the case to European courts because "no one (in the United States), not even the Congress, is ready to investigate the torture program," and because the case could not be brought with the International Criminal Court, as the United States is not a member.
More here.

And the NYT says As part of their complaint, the groups submitted 11 pages of written testimony from Janis Karpinski, the highest-ranking officer to be punished in the Abu Ghraib prison scandal.

She was demoted from brigadier general to colonel and lost command of her military police unit. She contended that the abuses at the prison started after the appearance of Maj. General Geoffrey Miller who was sent as by Mr. Rumsfeld to assist military intelligence interrogators.

Not unlike Henry Kissinger, Rumsfeld may find himself unable to travel abroad in the future. That he helped invent "Freedom Toast" and "Freedom Fries" (and the sad thing is that's what's still on the menus in my scarlet-red Bush-fan hometown) only adds to the tastiness of the irony in this story.
