Ring out the old, ring in the new

Mailing from moveon.org. I got it because my ice floe hasn't yet drifted out of wi-fi range.

This week, we're spinning up a massive program to register half a million young voters in swing states. This is the year of the young voter, and we all need to do everything we can to make sure every last young person votes on Election Day....

People say that the way Obama wins this election is by bringing more people into politics. And this program is the best way to make sure that every last person Barack has inspired and engaged actually shows up to vote on November 4th.

As someone Obama has neither inspired nor engaged, and who is so untrendily unyoung, where does that leave me?

NOTE: Outreach to younger voters is a wonderful agenda. Constantly marginalizing lifetime Democrats... not so much. "This is the year of the young voter," "we all need to do everything we can to make sure every last young person votes," and "These are the voters who will tip this election" are just more reminders of who's on this bus and who's been tossed under it.

...they want me to send in money, to make sure to get out the young voter they need to replace my vote that they don't need?

Coupled with the Roe club being wielded by Obama?

Gah. I want to hibernate until, say, November 2012.

Sounds like some kind of con, doesn't it?

Here in my neck o'the woods, homemade Tee's are all the rage in the AA's community. Shirts for family reunions, to remember victims of violence, etc, etc. Now, home made Obama shirts are rising in popularity, and I saw one while at Chuck E Cheese's for my daughter's B-day, that just fascinated me.

It was full of bright gold letters, had Obama's face(a better pic than the one above, I agree with herb on that), plastered over an American flag. It was almost TOO over the top, and what made me question whether it was to demonstrate genuine support, or if it was meant to be snarky, was the phrasing on the back.

It said "'Change' You Can Believe In" & "Yes We Can". Change was in quotation marks. It piqued my curiousity, and has left me pondering all weekend.

Didn't Dean claim the "youth vote" as well...Lots of organizers but not so many voters?

In 2004, voters 18-24 had the lowest turnout percentage of any of the demographics. Granted, they did vote for Kerry (54%). And they were the only group that swung toward Kerry in the exit poll.

when he said he was going to accept pubic financing?

Personally, I'd love to send him some, but I already donated all mine to Hillary and Emily's List. Hey, I didn't know to budget any for him, he said he was taking public financing. If he'd told me ahead of time that he was going to need it, maybe I would've set some aside. But he did not. Poor planning on his part, I'd say.
