If you have "no place to go," come here!

Reverend Wright -- WTF!!!!!

NeonPriest's picture

What the hell is this man talking about real-time.. right now -- Sunday, 4/27/08 at 8:18PM.... on Fox, CNN, and MSNBC...

He is a charlatan. Some preacher -- he thinks he's bombastic!!!

Affirmation is a function of negation, and vice versa... Octavio Paz... Why is this man apologizing for "differences" based on the dominant culture or any culture... ???

He believes a change is coming... How about figuring out what is going on in Chicago... Change that murderous culture happening now... Can you do something about that? I cannot believe that Barack Obama sat through these "sermons"... Wright is an egomanical fool who thinks he is intelligent! Sit down dammit!

"A Change is Gonna Come" is apparently the theme of this NAACP conference so he's repeating the theme.

Other than that...I suppose it wasn't in his style to continue hiding forever just because Obama is running for president but it doesn't appear that his emergence is going to be any help to Obama.

Let me clarify. An apology/explanation about racial differences perpetuates racism and stereotypes. Any Liberal that stops short of calling the speech/sermon unimaginative and unhelpful is practicing the subject of this comment.

Come on -- black children climbing up on desks, Hayakawa's Linquistics, right/left brain cognitive educational styles -- likened to apples and rocks... old news! The music argument was totally wrong -- reference Daniel J. Levitin's "This is Your Brain on Music."

Obama's first response when asked about Wright was correct. Wright is a crazy Uncle who needs to shut up and sit down.

I wish McCain's nutty pastor got this much publicity.

I can't wait for some Hillary supporter to splice the tape of Barack pushing single payer HC where he says something to the effect of Ted Kennedy needs to grow some spine and fight the Republicans and Wright mocking JFK and Ted's endorsement. It would be Hillarious

Who can keep track he said so many offensive things in such a nice and polite way that I now understand where Obama learned the trick. I no longer have a right eyebrow.
To mock an accent though means you are used to doing it and have been doing it for a while. I speak british and australian, irish is a lot harder but can do it if I am around it for a few hours.

After the subject/object hare-brained rant, I stopped watching until the political plug for Obama, acting as if the NAACP all needed to vote for Obama because he is black (wow if white's had that attitude Obama wouldn't have a snowbell's chance in hell) commentary......

On a brighter note so far there are no KKK advisors on Obama's staff so we have that to look forward to not seeing.

Democrats never agree on anything, that's why they're Democrats. If they agreed with each other, they'd be Republicans -- Will Rogers

If you want to know more about Wright, go watch the hour long interview that Bill Moyer did with Wright, broadcast on Friday. You can see it online. If I thought you had any real interest in actually knowing anything about Wright or his church I'd bother to go get the link, but you can find it yourself if you want to.

And yes, your post and comments a tinged with racism.

That doesn't mean I'm calling you a racist. There are no more racists in this country, because no one wants to be known as one, not even David Duke. That didn't used to be the case. William Buckley and most of the National Review had no difficulty suggesting that black folks in the Civil Rights movement weren't really ready for the vote, and to praise custom over the rights of black folks to equal protection before the law.

For your information, Wright's congregation and ministry are not exclusively black, it's multicultural and includes white folks, who are made to feel welcome there.

How about figuring out what is going on in Chicago… Change that murderous culture happening now… Can you do something about that?

Wright's church has all kinds of outreach to kids in the neighborhood. He preaches against the taking of innocent life, whether it is by countries starting wars, or kids who become gangbangers and hoodlums.

This comment doesn't mean that I agree with everything Wright says, nor even that I understand everything I've heard him say. But just because you dislike Obama is no reason to use rightwing arguments that are indeed tinged with racism.

The very notion that one speech can tell you everything you need to evaluate a man whose history includes, three years of college, and then a six year stint in the Marines and the Navy, and then a return to Howard university where he got his degree, and then to U of Chicago School of Divinity, where one of his professors who, by Wright's own account during the Moyer's inverview, was Martin Marty, who is among the most distinguished professors of religion we have in this country. Wright has been a pastor for some forty years now, I believe, and he built a small, poor congregation into one that now numbers 8000 and does all sorts of out-reach in the community.

The right is going to use this against Obama, and they will use other equally as phony and false claims that Hillary isn't truly a mainstream American if she gets the nomination. Obama is just as American as McCain, and so is Reverend Wright.

I'm not claiming that Wright is in the class of Dr. King when it comes to rhetoric, but the better and more searing Martin's commentary became, as in his speech about Vietnam at the Riverside Cathedral, the more that he was subject to attacks just like those being used against Wright.

I take your post as an impressionistic description of Wright's TV appearances this weekend, but as cg.eye notes, you're not giving us enough factual info (links, actual quotes) to understand your beef with the reverend.

Thus it's in the guess of the beholder whether Wright was indeed being obnoxious, or whether you are unfairly judging him.

Why not Google for the transcript, and add some real value?

VL, thanks for de-frontpaging.

Leah, thanks for the sanity. Well, relative sanity.

(Personally, I'm not all that enamored of Wright's remarks, and I'm especially not enamored of how Obama handled it -- whatever happened to that national conversation on race, and how does that square with smearing the Clintons as racists -- but if we want to look for real bad craziness, look at any Village savant. I mean, which'd you rather? Wright or Henry Kissinger, say?

Oh my... now I know what the right means by bleeding Liberals! You guys are hemorrhaging.

Taking this off the front page is censorship. It was a real-time post, for God sakes, we're in cyberspace.... you know "real-time"...

Here is a bit of truth spoon-fed to you... this morning Wright "joked" that he is hoping to be the VP... That is not funny. He is a crab in a barrel content with pulling Obama back down in the barrel with him.

Wright's legacy will be to single-handedly usurp Obama's bid for President of the USA. Mark Wright's words and actions -- Obama is done!

... and then complaining about "censorship" shows serious disrespect for the time and effort that go into building this community... which is made available free of charge, and which offers unusually broad opportunities to get your voice heard.

We don't owe you the right to make our site look bad. You want your stuff on the front page (or on the site at all)? Don't write incoherent posts without links or proper context.

Writing crappy posts on your site... like e.g., "Flirting with disaster" It made about as much sense as Bushonomics.

Your space/site is hostile and xenophobic. How's this for coherence... Go forth and multiply.
