U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Janesville) is introducing a proposal Wednesday that he says would establish universal health care, shore up Social Security and Medicare, and provide a simpler alternative to the current tax code.
A ranking member of the House Budget Committee, Ryan said his plan would ensure universal access to health insurance by providing a refundable tax credit for individuals and families to buy health insurance. His plan also proposes changing Medicare, the federal health insurance program for people 65 and older, for people now under 55, but preserving the existing Medicare program for people now older than 55.
His plan also would allow people under 55 to invest a portion of their Social Security taxes in personal retirement accounts.
This is just a way to take money out of the existing Social Security Trust Fund and give it to health insurance parasites.
Is there a Wisconsin chapter of Republicans for Single Payer? They would be the best people to disuade Ryan from this course. Otherwise the best response is for his constituents to write letters to the editors explaining why this approach just makes insurance companies richer while providing no additional health care.
