Quote of the decade

a little night musing's picture

You really need to be careful of believing twaddle that happens to coincide with your prejudices.

Mark Liberman (who else?!) in comments here.

[Mark Liberman of Language Log is a confirmed exponent of evidence-based-everything. I've been quoting him as long as I have been teaching statistics, and he's a linguist, for cryin' out loud. A model and an example for the rest of us.]

computational linguistics!

when i was an undergrad, they discouraged students from minoring in a field that was too similar to their major, so guess which one i chose... my favorite is cognitive/neuro/psycho, with a dash of language acquisition and artificial intelligence thrown in for well-roundedness. :-)

that's a great quote. i'm very prone to believing all the twaddle that coincides with my prejudices.
