I’ll be real quick about this. First you need to secure the vote. Second, remove slavery as a part of our constitution. But as for Illinois remember that deal to sell, I mean lease, the Chicago Skyway? Well here is a post from a while back about what that same program did in Britain. Meanwhile, while presidential nominee Sen. Obama is planning a http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/07/us/pol... ">public works project we need to ask do we really want government and corporations owning or leasing our infrastructure. Look at the http://bondbuyer.com/article.html?id=200... "> meter lease deal in Chicago. And ask do you want Citi Bank buying public infrastructure with money you gave them? That Spanish company they just bought is partners with the other Spanish company that bought tollways in Pennsylvania, Indiana, Colorado, Texas, and Illinois. CD you can watch the soap opera but please remember it is only a distraction. We, the United States of America, are about to be audited, the dollar is about to crash, oil is about to go through the roof, hyperinflation is about to ruin what is left of our economy, and the corporations are looting the country before the music ends.
I told you secure the vote first. Repeal the PATRIOT ACT, and end slavery. Otherwise we’ll all be in Citi Bank gulags making Buicks for China because we couldn’t pay our credit cards or parking tickets. Run tell that.

What could possibly go wrong?
From the Skyway article:
/pouts/ i like my soap operas, darnit!
i swear, you're just no fun anymore. fine. i'll focus on the serious stuff. /kicks can/
Do you cover the terrible train accidents which some have blamed
on Blair's (right? or was it done under Thatcher?) New Labor's contracting the running of the national railroads to private companies? I haven't have time yet to go through you blog entries, but I have a vague recollection of something awful this way comes from much privatizing.
Those private contract holders are sooooo responsive to public needs and safety...and listen to complaints so well...
Is Paterson planning on having private contractors handle all the tolls for every single bridge on the East and Harlem Rivers in NYC? I saw a map of the new tolls--and I was stunned. I had concerns about Balkanizing the city, keeping the outer boroughts even more outer; but this plan is tolls just to go across the Harlem River, really cutting neighborhoods apart. I'm amazed anyone, especially Dems, would be so non-communitarian.
The NYC plan is not to just keep the hoi polloi out of Manhatten if they don't have the ready--it's to cut up neighborhoods. Wow.
T/U for this spot on post.
The Skyway, Grant Pk Underground and Midway Airport too ---
oh --- and Chicago's p[arking meters and parking meter enforcement for the next 75 years. That's what Daley JUST privatized int he last year or so.
Michael Hudson suggested a few weeks ago that the only ways open for Obama to finance a public works program will be to
(1) cut the military budget
(2) privatize more of the public sector
Maybe there is something like a new Chicago Plan in the works.
No wonder Mayor Daley is so touchy about the subject of mortgaging Chicago's future.
He has now unloaded four of the city's most valuable assets for a $6 billion mountain of cash and saddled taxpayers with $5.8 billion worth of long-term debt.
This from the Chicago Sun Times last Thursday...
Here in Atlanta they just sold the express lanes on one of the interstates to a private company. Get ready for it. With the rate of profit down everyplace else, there is no place else for our betters to go but to devour the public sector.

Maybe?
Definitely.
Then entire public infrastructure is going to be privitized. For the enitre nation. That has already been decided. There will be no more commons.
CD I understand about the soap operas - I want my Tru Vote!!
I just think that we of all pepople should have a certain dimension of realism in our discourse. Without a secured vote, we are arranging deck chairs on the Titanic. Until that happens no other agenda matters, not health care, not the economy - nothing. Until we change the mechanism by which we cast and count votes - a verifiable paper trail. What are you doing? I'm very serious about this. It seems since the Dems won nobody picked up on voter fraud and election manipulation. If the point of free speech and public discourse in a democracy is not to sway the opinion of the voting masses, to bring issues to the fore so thath they can be remedied, and if not remedied the elected officals removed - what the hell are we doing except one great big circle jerk? What happened to re-instating the constitution? You remember - repeal the PATRIOT ACT! Whatever happened to that?
Until we secure the vote, the appointed officals are free to do what they please. And right now that seems to be the airtight union of government and corporations. There is a word for that - fascism.
I want my vote to count.

Thanks for this, Xeno
Here in Michigan, we've been trying to resist the so-called public-private partnerships (which are no partnership, at all) for a long time, now, in terms of public infrastcture. But, with our shrinking budget, I fear that we'll only be able to hold them off for a few years longer. The only thing floating out there at the moment to save us from these takeovers is a highly unpopular gas tax increase, and our governor has taken that off the table. I don't know how much longer we'll be able to hold them off.
But, we've always been at war with Eastasia...
