Political Whiplash! Reagan Appointee Declares Bush Wiretap Illegal?!?!?!?!

The Mayberry Lane's picture

Well, shut my mouth! Did a Ronald Reagan appointed Federal Judge actually just declare one of Bush’s warrantless wiretaps illegal?!?!?!?

In what was officially the last active case challenging the legality of Bush’s warrantless wire-taps, lawyers for the Al-Haramain Islamic Foundation must have been shocked that the case wasn’t thrown out over the “State Secret” reasoning that had been used in the dismissal of the more than three dozen other cases over which the Honorable Judge Vaughn R. Walker presided. The very same judge appointed by the “Can-do-no-wrong” Republican, Ronald Regan in 1987. Well, I’ll be!

I think John Eisenberg, lawyer for the accused Islamic group, said it correctly. “By virtue of finding what the Bush administration did to our clients was illegal, he found that the Terrorist Surveillance Program was unlawful." Could this mean we finally have a chance of seeing some members of the former administration doing the duck-walk into a court room? One can only hope.

Now, don’t underestimate my desire to deal with any real terrorist in true redneck fashion, but let’s face it… the Bush Administration used this illegal program to spy on American citizens… and someone needs to be held accountable. Perhaps this case will lead to the true restoration of our Civil Rights.

As for Cheney, Rumsfeld, and the rest, all I can say is the sun don’t shine on the same dog's ass all the time… your luck may have finally run out! And this is one Southerner that can only hope you’ll soon be seein’ the shady inside of a prison cell.

aware of it... Obama leans much more to the right than I would personally like.

I can, in theory, understand that he attempts to stay "middle of the road", but I fear that the more he moves to "the center", the more Republicans lean towards the right.

I am on the fence on the "State Secrects" privilege. I do not wish any information be shared if there is a true threat to our nation, however I feel the privilege, in and of itself, is a "slippery slope".

The moment we start saying any particular class, be it criminal or not, should be limited to only certain civil rights is the moment we all begin to be "less free". People are often unaware that certain classes, such as women, have actually had rights taken away from them in this country... what group will be next?

Most of us think he's over the centerline and on the right shoulder.

"Most of us think he's over the centerline and on the right shoulder."

That's what he was admitting to before the election. Now: down the ditch and into the field.

Life in the US is increasingly like the movie 'Brazil', but less fun.
