Plantidote of the Day 2012-09-20

Kathryn's picture

This looks like another variety of Osteospermum African daisy which insanelysane identified on the 07/28/12 Plantidote. Although the July version came from Canada and this one is local in NJ.

The simplest flowers are so joyful.

Something about that spent flower bud tells me perhaps this is instead a very close relative to Osteospermum. I think it could be a daisy called Arctotheca or Cape Daisy. They are so similar, I'm not positive.

The only clue is that Osteospermum is a bit more rigid and the spent buds don't flop like this one. Arctotheca is more flimsy and sprawling.
But then I'm just nit picking.

BTW, the new cultivars of Osteospermum are incredible. Google Osteospermum and look at the images. They are positively electric.
Happy Friday plantidoters.
