Iris

Rumor has it there are a few iris lovers here. So this one is for you guys!

It was shot in the garden of the former president of one of the national iris societies, so it could be something special. She's getting on in years and can't make it out to the garden anymore, so I don't like to bug her with questions. Maybe someone here will recognize it or make up an entertaining story about what it might be. And even if no one does know what it is or feels like writing a little fiction, we can still enjoy it, right?

Meanwhile, here's a special iris-lover's treat!

Readers, please send twig (twig4now@gmail.com) images and stories for the ongoing Plantidote of the Day series. In exchange, you'll win undying fame in the form of a hat tip! Plants growing in your garden, your house, or neighbor's yard, plants from the forest or farmers' market, plants you preserved, plants you prepared (wine; cider; tea; dried beans), plants you harvested (grains; chantrelles), plants you picked (flowers), plants you dried (herbs), plants you covet or hope to grow someday. Herbal remedies, propagation tips, new varieties, etc.. And if you can, include some solid detail about the plant, too -- a story, the genus and species, or where you got the seeds, or the recipe, or your grandmother gave it to you. Or challenge us with a "Name That Plant" mystery entry ... And please feel free to add corrections and additional information in the comments.

Maybe your neighbor hybridized it herself.
That walking iris is really cool! I purchased an unnamed iris from a garden club sale last year that has foliage like it and is truly "walking across" the flowerbed. It hasn't bloomed, so I can't id. it, plus my garden is z.7 with pockets of z.8 so it's probably too cold.
On another gardening note, there's an auction for Herronswood on June 15th. Anybody have $749K laying around? It's the minimum bid for this fabulous nursery. I NEED to win the lottery.

I've got a couple bucks here somewhere. But don't give up on the lottery -- good plan B!

Herronswood looks like nirvana!

Herronswood is divine. Yes, I'm in .

It was bought by Burpee several years ago. Burpee is on my sh*t list...and not in a good way!
They pack all of 8 pumpkin seeds in their packs! EIGHT ! We all know how many seeds you get inside a pumpkin.

Iris... the flowers look so fragile,
yet the plant is as tough as nails.
I literally have plants in my garden that were planted 40 years ago and get no care.
I dig and divide up every 10 years or so and maybe they get some run off irrigation. Blooming and thriving.
My kinda plant.

and should taste of whipped cream and peaches with blueberries.

Heronswood ... sad story. It's just a couple hours away from where I live. Burpee pretty much ruined it.
