The more that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, the more attacks on the rich. Social programs are NOT for the poor, they are put in to protect the RICH from attacks from the poor. Give people the ability to eat, have shelter, to drink, and have families to love, and they will pretty much leave the wealthy alone with their wealth. Take that away, and the wealthy are at risk.
Read an article about Mexico on that, where the wealthy have to hire bodyguards to go anywhere. Talk about gilded cages! Can you imagine what it's like growing up that way? What kind of fear would be instilled from childhood.
