... since it was a CraigsList ad. Duh!

Basically, it was the cheeriest invitation to slave labor that you will ever see. From a Northern VA suburb, naturellement.

Our family needs a wonderful helper to replace our amazing lady who is leaving to go back to her home country. We need this person to keep the house immaculate, help with two children aged two and three, and two large friendly dogs.

The person must be happy, bubbly, and smiley. Have common sense, be able to use own initiative, and be flexible. Be happy to be part of our family and muck in plus have the intuition to be invisible at the right time.

The role involves general housekeeping such as ironing, washing, cleaning, dusting etc. Plus looking after two children, sometimes sole charge, and caring for / walking our dogs. We also have a part-time housekeeper who will assist with that part of the role. The children are at nursery school during the day which is when the housekeeping and dog walking would take place.

Hours: Wednesday to Sunday - 10:30 to 19:30. One night babysitting including sleepover a week will be required minimum.

Salary: £20,000 gross per annum but negotiable for the right person (please state your expectations on your reply). Start date: April 2013.

Travel: We travel once a month within Europe for a week (sometimes longer) and the person will be required to travel with us. A person with "sea-legs" would be helpful as we like to go on boats.

Requirements: The person must have the right to live, work and travel freely so an EU passport is imperitive. A driving licence (with access to own car preferred). References. Excellent spoken English. Must have previous experience with children & housekeeping. Spanish speaking a bonus.

A nefarious scam, or truthfully slave labor?

It's identical all the way down to the UK details that start at "Hours". This is the paragraph that got me:

The person must be happy, bubbly, and smiley. Have common sense, be able to use own initiative, and be flexible. Be happy to be part of our family and muck in plus have the intuition to be invisible at the right time.

Just, ugh. "Be part of our family" and then "be invisible."

I suppose the couple could be bi-coastal. But... It does seem a little scammy, doesn't it? How would it work?
