I'm happy to see that she came across better tonight than those network appearances. She made a name error twice(general) and Biden didn't correct her. Nice gesture for him, he gets credit for it. They were very cordial, it was a nice event.

On the rescue/bailout issue, take a look at this from Europe:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/comme...

Seems Europe is in more trouble than we are.

"AIG had written $300 billion in credit protection for European banks, admitting that it was for "regulatory capital relief rather than risk mitigation". In other words, it was underpinning a disguised extension of credit leverage. Its collapse would have set off a lending crunch across Europe as banking capital sank below water level."

All the old money countries are having problems. This is something else. Thank God Japan fixed their problems in the 90's. Maybe we should be giving Paulson more credit...

...that so many others have of even hinting that Palin was picked to placate you. Palin's job from the beginning was to rally the base and hold it in place, and if she could sell the maverick ticket to indy's all the better. I'll tell you, if the base was hesitant about her (and there was some rumbling after her interviews), they'll love her, know. They watched the governor go up against the very definition of a Washington insider and hold her ground.

Palin wasn't meant for you and me, and some of us really need to stop critiquing her as if she was meant for us.

Palin wasn't placed in front of us as a viable option. I also think some think VP picks are more important than they really are. In the capacity of campaigning, all VP's have to do is not f' up big-time, and both Biden and Palin have done that.

If VP's really made a huge difference, than Quayle would have destroyed Daddy Bush's chances at the presidency. Palin showed herself to be a capable vice presidential candidate, tonight, and that's all she had to do, regardless of whether she carried the water for completely failed policies.

it was just a general overall comment on how none of them were chosen to appeal to anyone i know here or elsewhere--at all--Pres or VP.

I liked Biden overall, and Palin basically didn't screw up. The folksiness makes me crazy but I guess a lot of "folks" like that stuff.

Both of them were more on point than either Obama or McCain, and one thing that struck me, there seemed to be more respect on that stage than during the first presidential outing.

I watched the debate hoping she wouldn't do anything that would trigger more of the fuckingly (fuckingly? - is that proper grammar?) relentless media and lefty sexism, but just be a clueless Republican like any male.

Instead, I was stunned by this newest, glitteringest, most splendiferous star in the evangelical wingnut firmament. And I was afraid.

It's a bitter, bitter pill for me that the power of woman -- like any power, a two-edged sword -- was discovered by Repubs and not Dems this election.

I haven't really read up on her. She seems more likely to me to be a true believer, PLUS style (that is, the overplayed folksiness that Reagan-worshippers adore). And that's a scarier combination. Whereas, of course, Obama's beliefs are anyone's guess.

I am, of course, lamely equating true belief with substance, but hopefully you catch my drift. Her kind of true belief is all about symbolism, as you say, and not about truth. Conservative fervor tends to be based more on symbolism than truth, a mistake at which progressives scoffed... until this year.
