Biden: What Obama wanted

Palin: What do you expect? We're both mavericks.

Biden would carry out Obama's policies. Gives list.

Someone above said Biden is still running for president--agree.

Actually more precise than Obama usually is!

Gov's reply: Heaven forbid. McCain wants deliberative debate with VP, hasn't asked her to check her opinions at the door.

BTW, were the terrible performances in the Couric interviews a set up to make her look better when she actually debated?

on many of the issues. I'm not sure if he's right all the time.

As much as I like Sarah Palin, I find her tedious, staged and cutesy. It's too bad because I really want her to succeed for the sake of women leaders. But I can't stand the winking, the references to main street and all the dropped "g"s.

I respectfully disagree that she is strong in this debate. Visually she comes off as tense with a tinge of "dear in the headlights."

"There you go again, dog gone it..." Yikes, she's quoting Ronald Reagan.

I love this job!

I can see how I could come to really hate her voice, like Bush's voice; but then I already hate Obama's voice.

Her flag lapel is bigger than McCain's and has decorations!

Yes, she sounds like home, to me. She's so sweet she's making my teeth rot.

Biden did well on that -- and if only they all hadn't just saddled the middle class they want to defend with the trillion dollar bailout. If McCain had found it in himself to vote No, that would have been a gamechanger....

But when she starts going too fast, she grates.

What chatty Cathies they both are, to be sure!

She is not great, she is not fluid in her responses and not that quick on her feet, but she has managed to get a few jabs in.

She's a Republican. Or a Democrat. I forget now, it's all a blur.

What did Biden just say about one of his flaws being too much passion? He's sure not showing it tonight.

I know she's been ripped apart, but this is so much better than the Jim Lehrer debate. Ifill seems to want them to answer questions. Jim wanted to see nothing more than a circus, and tried his damndest to make it so by egging them to fight each other.

I'm looking forward to the Brokaw presidential debate, the most, though. He seems the only one who's been able to keep his head, this year.

a couple of times, even if Palin was over time. But because Biden never got interrupted, it will give them fuel. Otherwise Ifill has been quite fair (with a few points off for too many foreign policy questions)

Everything she says sounds like stuff said around the kitchen table she keeps talking about. Bromides, not policy. She and McCain are mavericks. They'll cure Wall St greed. They'll change the way things are done in Washington. Is she too young to have heard of the Keating five?

Yah, the right wing is already ecstatic because she didn't implode. But being elected Miss Congeniality in McCain's place doesn't mean people will think you could be Vice President or President.

Biden has been very restrained, he hasn't rambled on and on, but been quite succinct. He's done a good job defending Obama's (and his) plans and record from the mischaracterizations/lies thrown around by the Palin/McCain camp.

Oooh, just called Cheney the most dangerous veep in US history. Go, Joe, Go!!!! I give him bonus points for that.

Palin has not fallen on her face. Her folksiness irritates me, she even threw in Reagan's "there you go again," and I personally think the refusal to correct the pronunciation of nukular and Eye-rack is deliberate, a shout out to the so-called real folks of red-state Amurrikah. That said, she has studied up a lot, and she's been relatively coherent.

Biden comes across as more impressive and knowledgeable. He wins on responses. That said, this will give a slight bump to McCain, only because things went south after last week's Palin interviews with Couric.

Re: the gay marriage thing - I know so many people are distressed by the stance of Obama et al (all of them), but looked at from another angle, both VP candidates, including the conservative one, acknowledged the legitimacy of same-sex relationships, and the need for legal equality. That's huge. The culture, it is a-changin'.

We've seen just isn't coming across, here. She does relatively poor interviews by Village standards, but she is not a shrinking violet in debates. Again, her biggest problem in national politics is that she's a normal human being; she doesn't speak Villagese.

Hillary treatment for showing that emotion?

Then I realized, no, bcz he's a guy, a longtime player in DC, and a frequent guest on all the talk shows. So, no. Plus, this year it's the Republicans' turn at the bottom of the barrel. Obama is getting the benefit of the doubt, never given to Gore, Kerry, or Hillary. Edwards they took our early with utter ridicule.

Palin: When I didn't cut taxes enough! But I don't need to change my mind on anything because we've been bipartisan in Alaska. [!!]

I disagree - I think he's been pretty feisty tonight about a number of things. I liked his take-down of the "maverick" label. He was very forceful (and effective) pointing out that in three weeks we spent more on Iraq than we have spent in 6+ years on Afghanistan (that I did not know).

I really don't want another president or vice-president who repeatedly says "folks". Palin: there are a lot of diverse folks in my family.

Ugh.

Biden: Fundamental change we'll bring to tone is not question people's motive. Well, what would I know? I'm a racist. And bitterly clinging to my guns. Because I'm a paranoid holdout.

Palin: [Doesn't even answer, just does talking points!]
