I'm torn. I don't want to listen, because I've got a lot to do, but I also don't want to rely on the boiz for my impressions. Also, it might be great threatre! Readers, what are you going to do? Would anyone like to live blog it?

Since I Got Side Tracked During Friday's Debate
doing household shit other than removing the appliques from my bathtub, I bought a big bottle of vinegar last night to do the job tonight. I had forgotten about the debate, mostly because at this point the Democrats have pushed me almost to beyond caring, but it still seems that getting old nasty plastic off my bathtub bottom is a better use of my time than listening to these two.
I'll let you know how the vinegar works. If it doesn't, it's on to one of the other Corrente recommended ways.
Plot out my fantasy football team
These debates are pure theater and I've seen enough to know that what the participants say doesn't really matter since the pundits chose the winner based on their predetermined narrative. My view these days is that the reality is probably the opposite of what the pundits and blogosphere say happened. They are also filled with soundbites and since none of the current players are brilliant enough to pack substance into the 30-60s answers the way Hillary was, there is no point in bothering for me. Besides we already know how much stock we can put into any of the candidates' promises.
Also, I'm unemployed these days so the alcohol is saved for very special occassions of which the debate is not one, which would be the only way I could stomach it.
dog walk
I am going to walk my dog
I think Palin has a big problem, McCain voted for the bail out and then said it was going to ruin the economy, there is just no way she can defend that.
I am going to wait for the Tina Fey satire. Or maybe Cannon fire will write up a report
i'll be watching for one-liners and mistakes--
that's all they're good for--entertainment (and bad entertainment at that)
Sneak preview of Palin's responses
can be found here.
To keep it balanced, I'm looking forward to Biden's endorsement of McCain and another suggestion that Hillary would have been a better choice. Joe's cerebral-vocal shunt is always great theater.
Between the four of them, I am so proud to be an American.
My feeling is why
even watch. Sarah Palin could be unbelievably astute and well informed but the Fourth Estate, the National Inquirer NYT and the tabloid WaPoo, would cut her to sheds including their partisan and abusive blogs on both papers. The cable pundits will of course, talk about her '70's hairstyle, her cracker speech and her calves.
Joe Biden could speak Farsi and they would praise him.
Already know the drill and I have found I am powerless to anything or anyone.
I loathe all of them.
It's the first time we will hear Sarah unedited.
If you want to know who she is, this is gonna be your first chance to form your own impressions without the handy dandy editing snips of people with an agenda. I'm going to watch, because I don't think she is the air head she's being made out to be, and I think there could a surprise or two tonight. I mean, she is a Republican so she isn't a wonk, but I don't think she's a bimbo as maher called her the other night.
She's gonna nail Joe a couple times, and the Obamasphere is going to howl when she does!
her "second-grade" crack the other day was good--
""It's my turn now. I'm looking forward to Thursday night's debate. I've never met Joe Biden. But I've been hearing about his Senate speeches since I was in, like, second grade," Palin quipped to thunderous applause at an event in Columbus, Ohio." -- http://story.floridastatesman.com/index....
Chris Matthews tonight-"how stupid is she?"
over and over and over--rephrased 100 ways, but always the same.
bwahaha! "Biden, Aides Focus On Tone of Debate"
Biden, Aides Focus On Tone of Debate
Prep Sessions Take Gender Factor Into Account -- http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con...
"... Although Biden spokesman David Wade called the gender factor "overhyped," that hasn't prevented the nominee from seeking advice from an array of prominent women in politics. After their conversation, Biden sent Ferraro a DVD of one of Palin's gubernatorial debates, and Ferraro said she sent the senator a tape of her debate against then-Vice President George H.W. Bush in 1984. ..."
he's gonna have to totally hold back.
Ha!
he’s gonna have to totally hold back.
In other words, this will be like most every other debate.
*yawn*
except i don't think that's possible for Biden--
at all---put a camera on him and you can't stop him---ever.
a good drinking game would be to chug each time
he runs over his time and has to stop midsentence.
He was pretty disciplined
in the Dem debates. I think he'll keep his cool.
why watch, when you can can chard and read comments?
seriously, i have no interest in sitting in front of the teevee. but reading comments of other blogjunkies as they watch and crack jokes? one of my few remaining pleasures in politics. also, i have four quarts of today's canning finishing up in the pressure cooker (no moose broth, tho), and they will keep me up a while. so i'm kicking back, getting ready for emails, phone calls, and instamessaging from people who are doing the hard part for me, and enjoying the smells of cooking apple butter and freshly picked chard packed into my jars. it's not heaven, but it's good enough for a thursday.
i hear you LB, about not wanting to trust the boiz. which is what you tube is for; if and when you decide it is truly important for you to know what was said, what it looked like, you can review at your own lesiure. but i doubt anything will be said tonight that is truly 'important.'
"prompting reporters on the plane to burst out laughing."
"More from the annals of shameless spin . . .
ABC’s Matt Jaffe reports that on Sen. Joe Biden’s plan from Delaware to St. Louis, Obama campaign manager David Plouffe said the following:
"Gov. Palin is one of the best debaters in American politics," Plouffe said, prompting reporters on the plane to burst out laughing. ..." -- http://blogs.abcnews.com/liveblogging/20...
this is why she's already won--them laughing at
how dumb they all think she is--even before the debate starts.
i think Biden botoxed again--
look and see if his forehead or eyebrows move at all--and Palin looks like she got new highlights.
(i still can't get over how horrible Biden's eyejob is--just horrendous)
yup--botoxed--and sedated too, i think--
he's not happy--and it only just started.
his eyebrows haven't moved once yet.
She is nervous.
She's not breathing and speaking too fast. I think she memorized that first response. She spoke far to quickly and in such a monotone that it was difficult to catch what she actually said.
she totally did--she's showing what she rehearsed--
all week she's been learning this stuff--
she'll settle down.
she just used a Reagan line--
govt problem, not solution
Greatest workforce in the world
-- that's why we're going to milk them 'til they're dry!
Biden's strategy:
keep hammering McCain and basically ignore Palin. So far when he's been asked to respond to her he goes after McCain instead.
but he's not there--and Ifill is prompting him to respond to her
--his strategy won't hold at all.
(i can't even bear to look at him--his eyelids are completely unnatural--and he still has big bags underneath)
Wow -- she's already condescending
and we're only 20 minutes in. I wonder if her strategy is going to be to goad Biden.
one of them is--
she needs him to be the ass we all know and don't love.
"The middle class is the engine of America"
Well, sure. They wouldn't be able to bail out the bankers to the tune of a trillion dollars if they weren't.
[ ] Very tepidly voting for Obama [ ] ?????. [ ] Any mullah-sucking billionaire-teabagging torture-loving pus-encrusted spawn of Cthulhu, bless his (R) heart.
he's so bad at pretending he's working-class-
totally fake with his Scranton stuff...only the Obama campaign sees him as a working-class hero.
"What promises will you not be able to keep?"
Biden at least has this down: Foreign aid not tax cuts for the rich and the corporations and wasteful spending! And offshore corps
Palin skewers Obama for voting for Cheney's energy plan oil company tax breaks, and she took them on. No, she's not not answering the questions.
Ifill: So, nothing? Palin: We have made no promises we can't keep.
Biden says Obama voted for the plan for alternative energy!
Funny, these two really do sound like VPs (second on the ticket)

they're both lousy--
and their delivery sucks...the pundits won't be happy unless they deliver zingers and attacks. (i won't either)
I thought he missed an
I thought he missed an opportunity to catch her on the inconsistency of saying she's for regulation and wants to get the government out of the way of the private sector.
He might have mentioned that the private sector came to the government and said if you don't give us a trillion dollars, there is going to be a catastrophic failure of the economy. And this after 8 years of a President who said the same things she is saying.
Yes. and if Obama hadn't been whipping the Ds for the bailout..
... (see here) that might have had a chance of working.
Both candidates, both parties, wholly in favor of a trillion dollar giveaway to Hank Paulson's golfing buddies that probably won't even work, and will leave us worse off than before. Tell me again about the two party system, and how very different the two candidates are? Sure, they differ on the small things, but on the big issues? Same Overton Window for both, same Village for both. Obama's FISA betrayal was, of course, the harbinger of this.
[reach me that bucket, wouldja hon?]

First Thoughts
- These is many more times more educational than the first presidential debate.
- Of course, Biden has the issues on his side, but Palin is awfully impressive, tonight, and superficially very telegenic.
- I'm not so sure it was the best strategy for Biden not to go after Palin.
- Again, I'm very pleased by this debate, so far.
are you?
they're both just spinning--and not being truthful about the tops of their tickets at all.
i bet she brings up the Bankruptcy thing--
Ifill won't at all.
Someone needs to ask Palin
what is her understanding of the difference between regulation (bad!) and oversight (good!)?
wait--what? what did he say about bankruptcy?
?
There was so much of it...
... and it went by so fast I didn't get.
And Palin didn't skewer him on it, either. She probably suports it too.

Yes, but...
Just heard Palin bring back up energy, again, completely unprovoked. This is getting very annoying. She sucks at segways.
that climate question is dumb--
trying to be a "gotcha".
did Biden vote for Cheney's energy bill like Obama?
anyone know?
Biden Is Killing on the Climate Question
And, he's right. And, anytime you get to say something with that amount of certainty, you win that question.
Okay, before it was just
the "east coast elite," now apparently, it's the entire eastern seaboard that's to blame for everything.
"Senator O'Biden"
What a cute slip by Palin. lol!
"Nuk-u-lar"...
Palin...
Meanwhile, Biden's going on about "clean coal," and I know at least one person whose head is exploding about that.

the coal-miner's friend?
"clean coal" is a joke. a sick sad joke.
Never Got the Nuclear Thing
I've said it both ways, myself.
he's lying--marriage is one of those things-
he and Obama won't give us the same benefits--it's not possible unless we are legally married.
all 4 are against marriage--
how "wonderful" they agree.... not.
