"Operation Ballsack"

What Susie said:

Oh man, that's GENIUS! Takes me back to the days of 2003. Things just keep getting more real, don't they?

From the proposed AUMF:

(a) Authorization.-The President is authorized to use the Armed Forces of the United States as he determines to be necessary and appropriate in connection with the use of chemical weapons or other weapons of mass destruction in the conflict in Syria in order to-

(1) prevent or deter the use or proliferation (including the transfer to terrorist groups of other state or non-state actors), within, to or from, Syria, of any weapons of mass destruction, including chemical or biological weapons or components of or materials used in such weapons; or

(2) protect the United States and its allies and partners against the threat posed by such weapons.

So it's a totally open-ended authorization -- no end date, no limit on what means the US can employ (missiles, no-fly zone, ground troops -- heck, it even permits chemical weapons or nukes I suppose). Wow.

It is unclear to me how attacking Syrians -- whether by airstrike, dronestrike, BlackOps Whatever -- will advance either of these two stated goals, even in their dizzying breadth.

It seems to me -- and I am no military expert -- that short of having a means to identify and seize every single element of a "chemical warfare arsenal" (whatever that means) present or future (deterrence and protection clearly imply effectiveness as to future use, transfer, bla bla, of chemical weapons) all of the strikey-type actions proposed so far by Striker In Chief appear to be utterly useless to the tasks articulated in the AUMF.-- preventing proliferation/protecting certain constituencies.

But effectiveness is perhaps beside the point given that with Obama it's all about him trying to prove to World that he's the Baddest, Meanest, Most Powerful Number One.
