"If you're willing to work hard, then you can find a job that supports a family. "
Just a flat out lie.
Have I mentioned lately what an asshole Obama is?

and remember
"you are not constrained by the circumstances of your birth"
heh heh
Those are misquotes.
In the speech, Obama is talking about "when I thought about why am I getting into politics." He's talking about an ideal which he is not equating with the current situation. The first part of the sentence:
Let's criticize the man for the crappy stuff he does, not misrepresent his clumsy speeches.
Well further down...
.... there's this from the complete transcript:
Then to the useless training programs and yadda yadda. So the people who aren't "making it" aren't trying. Or aren't "tough" or whatever.
Sorry, he's still an asshole.
it's conservative moral framing
Emphasis on personal responsibility. The implication that if you are not making it, it's your fault, because you didn't work hard enough. Not capitalism's fault. Not the government's fault.
Since when did Obama work hard ? When he was employed at the CIA front group Business International Corporation ? Exactly what did he do there, anyway ?
The rest of the speech pretends to embrace New Deal-style trickle down economic policies. It sounds good, but it's BS. Obama is a Neoliberal. He's all about bank bailouts and free trade agreements and deficit reduction and "shared sacrifice."
The "moral frame" is better than my response
That's it, exactly.
Not sure about the Business International Corporation stuff, and I remember the fever swamps of 2008 on issues like this, and am not sure I want to go there. That said, the oppo of the Romney campaign has been pathetically weak.
When you resort to Hilary -- HILARY! -- as an honorable opponent
giving cogent criticism of his policies during their nomination race? Right-wing Fail.
When you ignore the shady dealings he had in real estate, when they're right there for the digging? Even more fail.
It only shows that Romney's backers are even worse than Obama's, for that mud to remain unflung. Then again, both are locks for the nomination, so they might see that as wasted ammo, too soon...
