Obama Kabuki

[Welcome, Confluence readers! Additional evidence for the prosecution may be found at Argus smear and Fucked In The Head Watch -- lambert]

From CBS:

This afternoon, Barack Obama responded to Hillary Clinton's comments yesterday when she referenced th assassination of Robert F. Kennedy as a reason she's staying in the race this year. Obama said he believes that Clinton was not trying to be offensive.

"I have learned that when you are campaigning for as many months as Senator Clinton and I have been campaigning, sometimes you get careless in terms of the statements that you make and I think that is what happened here," Obama said in a radio interview today.

"Senator Clinton says that she did not intend any offense by it and I will take her at her word on that."

Once again, we see a ginned up fauxrage by Obama supporters, that, having run it’s course or, as in this case, become counter-productive, now being tepidly denounced by Obama himself.

His campaign covertly fans the flames, then he claims credit for displaying class in attempting to put out the fire.

In South Carolina, he sat quietly while his staff pushed the race card meme, but when the internal talking point memo surfaced, suddenly he gave a wishy-washy statement that the Clintons weren’t running a racist campaign and wanted to “move on.”

Sorry, I’m not buying it.

What so many of Obama's supporters* and our famously free press are shouting is that Clinton hopes Obama is shot (like RFK) so she can win the nomination. That's the most vile smear I've encountered in five years of blogging and many thousands of posts, and that's saying something. Drudge rules their world, and that goes for the Obama campaign too. They can go Fuck themselves sideways. They're lying liars, and with this lie, they've finally crossed the line.

1. Watch the video. It's in the sidebar. You'll see. It's not Rashomon at all. There's no way Hillary said what (so many of) Obama's supporters and the press are saying she said. That's because they're lying liars, and they can go fuck themselves sideways.

2. Read this statement from RFK Jr. RFK Jr. says that Hillary didn't say what (so many of) Obama's supporters and the press are saying she said. That's because they're lying liars, and they can go fuck themselves sideways.

3. Read this statement from the Argus editorial board, who were actually in the room, and not relying on video clips. It says that Hillary didn't say what (so many of) Obama's supporters and the press are saying she said. That's because they're lying liars, and they can go fuck themselves sideways.

And now, 24 hours into the wankfest,The Unclothed Emperor of Passive Aggression finally issues a statement. He could have stopped the wankfest 24 hours ago with a word. He chose not to. He chose to let his lying liars do the damage. Obama can go fuck himself sideways.

NOTE * I am deliberately saying "(so many of) Obama's supporters" instead of OFB -- the Obama Fan Base who are, by definition, deluded -- because many of Obama's supporters are repeating the lies. That's very unfortunate. To make my attitude on this point crystal clear, any Obama supporter who repeats this lie can go fuck themselves. Got it? Good. Naturally, retraction and repentance are only to be encouraged; past performance is no guarantee of future results.

fuck is actually an acronym for 'fornication under consent of the king.'

And this latest crap the O pods are pulling is so vile that it makes me sick. I thought the attempt to destroy the Clintons by calling them racist was the lowest, but apparently there is a new low.

And they want out vote? Dream on!

Here is a comment at Balloon Juice regarding RFK Jr.'s defense of Hillary yesterday:

"RFK Jr is a “don’t spoil our view with windmills”-arguing, autism-junk-science-promoting wanker, who got busted for having almost .2 kilos of heroin when he was 30.

Also, he’s on record as wanting Clinton’s Senate seat.

Anyway, why should he care, Clinton’s offense wasn’t to the Kennedys. RFK can’t be killed again."

No one there said a peep in response. There were four separate threads yesterday and last night, today - nothing.

which is not mutually exclusive with yours. Do you remember Thom Hartman's missive in favor of the unity ticket? Let me refresh everyone's memory:

"The issue at hand for the Democratic Party for winning in ‘08 is not losing to McCain but losing to a divided Democratic party. The first thing Obama should do if nominated is put Hillary on the ticket. Will the Republicans have a field day with her on the ticket? Yes! Is their some bad blood in the water due to some negative campaign strategies on the part of the Clintons? Probably. Can Hillary be a tough fighter able to play tough allowing Obama to stay higher above the fray? Yes!"

This made me want to throw up, of course. But here is what I think. Obama plays this game: the OFB gets rabid about some nonsense (like the RFK reference), the media cheers on, then, Obama gets to play high-minded, above the fray, whatever.

We should not buy that one either.

Let's not fool ourselves, as the battle for the nomination intensifies, we're going to see a lot of mindfuck on all directions but, I think, mostly a pattern:

1. Hillary speaks on any topic

2. bullshit-boating of Hillary by the media, the OFB, the Big Blogz, and, for special occasions, a Special Commentary by KO

3. The day after the storm, once mileage has been had for his campaign, Obama comes down from the mountain and makes a unity, above the fray pronouncement.

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Anyone wants to bet on this?

"Senator Clinton's statement before the Argus Leader editorial board was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign," wrote Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton in a missive to reporters.

Burton's e-mail included a link to a New York Post story which noted that Obama, who received a Secret Service detail early in the campaign, has been the subject of threats.

unleashed the Flying Monkeys. But you see, it wasn't Obama himself who said it... plausible deniability... he stayed above the fray!

It's a very subtle game of wink wink nudge nudge.

to actually feed the video to Murdoch and Drudge and other media outlets--like with Ferraro's comments and Bill's "fairytale" statement and the MLK/LBJ stuff, etc...

FOX (out of all the media) actually acknowledged it-- http://embeds.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/05/... -- "The Obama camp today took notice of Hillary Clinton’s comment to a South Dakota newspaper editorial board meeting, where she said she would not drop out of the race and oddly observed, “Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June.”

When the New York Post picked it up and called the comment “an odd comparison between the dead candidate and Barack Obama,” the Obama camp responded. “Senator Clinton’s statement before the Argus Leader editorial board was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign,” a spokesman said in a statement, further escalating the story.

Fodder for at least a few more news cycles. "

the NYPost and Drudge got it from Obama's campaign in the first place.

This is not nobility. As Lambert said elsewhere, this is plausible deniability.

And it ain't Kabuki, McGee. It's Bunraku puppetry, just in time for the Obama oppo to design the next scene regarding our Dear Servicemen and Women, in time for Monday's news cycle.

Dibs on it's a retired Army general speaking out on Clinton's dangerous pro-* policies that endanger our readiness, and of course Obama has A Better Idea.

That's as good a term as any.

More:

At first glance, this is exactly like their "race baiting" in Carolina.
"Do you mean to tell me that Bill Clinton, former president,
brought up Jesse Jackson's name in the same sentence as Obama?"

"OMFG - he used the *JJ* name?" OMFG, are you kidding me??"

America - why can't you see what the whore media's doing to you?
Why do you suddenly see the whore media as your trusted friend?

It's also like Carolina in that nobody can define the "crime."

exactly. and that includes Keith Olbermann too (it took me a while to come to that realization, but.... apparently many - if not *most* Dems - actually see him as their "trusted friend".
it's sad, really.)

America does see what the whore media is doing to us. That's why Clinton is winning, and expanding her base. I think a lot of Clinton's most recent support, comes from media backlash.

HAha~!! that's just too funny.

i certainly hope that he was not just kidding around, and that Chelsea will run for office (whatever the heck it was that happened in Iowa that changed everything...)

btw, i'm *certain* that Hillary would make a *better* POTUS than Bill (not that he was a horrid pres - it's just that i *know* she'd be better... )

as for Chelsea... she just seems like a really good, bright and well-adjusted kid (uh... i meant, a "young woman"), and.... since her mom has been pretty much effectively sabotaged at this point - despite her potential to become one of the best presidents in history.... i dunno. for some reason the thought of "little" Chelsea running for office in 8 years makes me smile...
(even though - admittedly - it's little "consolation", to say the least.)

...it's just a very old verb. Nobody knows the exact derivation. There are lots of cognate verbs in various Germanic languages that mean "to copulate." Could also be Anglo-Saxon, Greek, Latin, or Celtic. It's hard to trace the etymology because it wasn't written down much but was used in common speech.

The acronyms (a whole bunch have been proposed) are urban legends.

reading all this awful crap about Clinton's RFK remark. It's as if half the world has gone crazy. It's so totally irrational. I just can't imagine what she must be feeling, to think that people hate her that much.

I just made myself feel a little better, at any rate, by going to her site and sending her some $love$. Maybe that's something all of us could do to show our support, even if it's just five bucks.

sen obama said this yesterday:

"...I will take her at her word on that.”

that phrase is not accidental.

it was precisely the phrase that senator clinton used when she was asked about sen obama's religion some months ago.

obama was throwing clinton's own words back at her.

now this is not uncommon human behavior, not even for those of us who are old enough to be labeled adults.

but sen obama is a guy who professes to be a leader, who claims the talent to lead, who aspires to be THE political leader of the united states.

does a person who behaves IN PUBLIC like an angry spouse really merit elevation to the presidency?

now add this in,

a month or so ago, after losing badly in pennsylvania, this same would-be president twice in one day gave a slyly delivered bird to his opponent, IN A PUBLIC SPEECH.

this is presidential behavior?

will our would-be president suddenly change his public behavior if elected?

do leopard change their spots?

do pigs fly?

does barack obama have what it takes to be a competent president?

Submitted by lambert on

Is there any way to include the "parent" link when you're viewing things in flat view? I find reading the comments threads in flat view the most convenient, but occasionally I want to see what a comment like "Great Point" was said in response to.

It's "Sarcasm from a Leader" by orionATL.

I personally like the threaded comments myself. Another website I used to go to, my first Intranet Home you might say, was designed with them, so I'm just used to it.

It does make it easier to follow the convo too, IMO.
