Not a bad platform

lambert's picture

Bullet points (for starters):

  • take privatization of SS off the table
  • prosecution of the Bush crime clan
  • promotion of women’s and LGBT’s rights
  • progressive economic policies
  • committment to energy independence and Green Collar jobs
  • universal health care
  • repeal of no child left behind; committment to world class education
  • out of Iraq / no bombing of Pakistan
  • reinstate habeas corpus
  • commitment to appointing progressive judges on SCOTUS, no waffling
  • commitment to reproductive rights, pro-choice (safe, legal, rare will do)
  • net neutrality

Anybody running on it?

Sure, I'd change some stuff. But still.

NOTE I'm talking about the totality of the platform, not the individual points, so yes, I know that the words "we will not privatize it" are in the D platform on SS. But the places where current D policies deviate from this list are telling, I think. And what's not on this list is also telling: An end to the empire, for example. Or how about, say, cutting our foreign bases by half and freezing all new weapons systems for 5 years? For starters. We can't afford that shit. If we ever could.

from what I remember that I thought that's what the list might be before I turned the page.

McKinney's where I'm going in November. Hate the Greens, don't like McKinney herself, but her platform is right on and seems to me the message of voting for a lefty black woman instead of Obama or McCain is exactly the message I want to send-- since my vote won't affect the outcome in the slighest in my big-time Obama state.

Not in Kansas, that's for sure.

If every Obama stump speech had even one line about each of those topics I would feel a lot better voting for him.

who is going to be on their local ballot in November? Secretary of State? How soon before election day is the ballot decided/printed? I noticed that john edwards suspended his campaign the week before super tuesday, and his name wasn't on my ballot.

Most election administrations are required to post the sample ballot some fixed time period before the election. Larger places are putting them online.

It depends on the cutoff window for candidates and election laws, and the SOS typically also produces a list of valid statewide candidates and issues some time before the election for the local counties/ towns.
