Naomi Klein: Shock Doctrine

lambert's picture

The answer to Atrios's question, "What changed?", I would guess, is that internal Republican polling now indicates an Obama win. Therefore, the Republicans are implementing their shock doctrine policies now, rather than later. (Of course, there could well be a national security surprise as well.)

Lovely. Will the Ds go along? After FISA, I'd bet yes, but we must do what we can.

This has been on the calendar for quite a while.

And you act like Republicans are a unilateral entity. Are Democrats? Ask the Clintonistas and PUMAs if they are.

McCain is not a Republican to Republicans, certainly not to Bush/Cheney Republicans. McCain is a wild card, always has been for them. They don't know what they're going to get if he wins. Nothing they can count on (or to phrase it more aptly...take to the bank), that's for sure. Palin just gave them an excuse to gin up enthusiasm. You forget that Coulter was voting Hillary over McCain.

They are just squeezing every last penny they can out of the U.S Treasury before picking up stakes. They are so good at it, one just has to marvel.

I was being glib, but trying to make the point that it had nothing to do with McCain's numbers. I doubt the McCain campaign and the Bush Administration communicate, let alone coordinate a move like this.
