More health care astroturf

You may have noticed that many of the high traffic progressive blogs are sporting banners paid for by the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease. Let me say right off the bat that I think it is terrific that bloggers are getting a cut of all the lobbying largesse that is floating around. I only wish it were spread even further to lower traffic blogs.

However I decided to look into who sits on their board of directors. It is a blend of parasites, vested interests, legitimate academics, and progressive organizations. It gives you a glimpse of how progressive organizations get co-opted. It is not as simple as being bought or even cocktail weenies. It is carefully cultivated associations that little by little dull the sense of mission.

Oddly, or not, I can't find their funders

Like dcblogger, I'm skeptical. I looked at it earlier today and viewed content first. It's basically a plug for corporate wellness programs (in states I clicked on), which will be subsidized thru tax advantages or premium discounts via some of the legislation I've seen. Also some names I don't recognize -- clearly this is going to be a growth industry despite meager gains. Looks like same old, same old formula: big gains for corps, small gains for public health.

Oh, Billy Tauzin is on the board.
