Read the complete text of Dodd's proposal here and add your comments. Be polite, for pity's sake.
What a great project from the Sunlight Foundation!

oh, i see how it is.
not content with stealing post ideas literally of my mind before i get to post them, now you're stealing my comments and making them sticky posts. damn you, evil villain. you will burn in antipasta hell, the FSM has already told me. go sniff some paint fumes, you zucchini sucking...
haw, jes kiddin.
more seriously: yes, i've been reading it, line for line. tell me again: what is so "different" about this bill, if the Sec. of Treasury is still effectively "in charge?" there's lots of other not really comforting or specific stuff i've noted; i haven't left a comment there b/c i thought to do so in a post. which is now going to be on your post here, sob. you're worse than a namestealer, i swear.
...i have to comment: in private communications, some People We Trust are calling this bill "not so bad." so far, i strenuously disagree with that. good points detailing why are greatly appreciated from any commenters who are smarter about articulating why than i am. thanks in advance.
I'm sorry, I should have given you a shout out
It's just that I'm moving really fast right now, in RL and here....
I guess you missed my "You're cute when you're mad" comment, then? [dodges falling iron safe]
Seriously, it's a great tool, and I wish smarter people, like Stirling, would go over there.
Yeah, not so bad like the 8th circle of hell vs. the 9th, or florid mania vs mania, or tertiary sylphilis vs. your brain actually having turned to soup...
You get the idea. The key thing is the bankruptcy court. That means no hope for homeowners. And I added a clause saying "Nothing in this act shall be construed as conferring retroactive immunity...."
Seriously, Stirling's plan is better on every level. Dodd's plan just tries to throw a net over the crazy bankers, but they're as crazy as ever.
One other point is the fees for asset management. I would be interested to know if Stirlings FDIC proposal differs on that point.

well, i for one have long since stopped expecting
an ything from "fillibuster but not really" Dodd. he made me look bad, back when i posted that people should support his preznicy run for claiming he'd defend the constitution; i don't forgive or forget. fuck him. he's also second only to Sen MBNA in banking industry cnx. so i'm not surprised.
BDB and others have posted some stuff i need to Think About before i go recklessly posting. i've decided tonight is a commenting-only night, and after a good night's sleep (and perhaps hawt sex) i'll come back and try to articulate why all this Totally Sux and is Hardly Different than the Bush version.
i'm also told that our newest heroes SN and IW and others will have Quality Comment up by tomorrow, and look forward to linking to that.
...as much as i want to shove this homegrown zucchini up your, never mind, i'm still *nowhere* as angry with you as i am with the motherfuckers selling out my future and country out from under me, all so some investor class and foreign banker and cronies can keep that 13th vacation home in Gstaad.
shit, by comparison i'm not even as angry with our trolls. are they worth a trillion or two? cause that'd be a trade i could live with.
now where's my iron?
I didn't know you played golf!
Oh, wait, this kind of iron:

I'd also like to see the marked up bill...
... become a point of contact. And somebody should tell some staffers about it...

Hardly different from the Bush version, exactly
Anglachel on the Dodd bill:
Well, good. I'd always wondered how much difference between today's Ds and today's Rs there was, and now I have a metric!
This is not the party of LBJ. This is not the party of Clinton. The DINOs are in the driver's seat, while Obama wanders off to teabag the Christianists. Well done, all.

Taken by itself
it's not that great a bill. Even perhaps a bad bill. But it's a ton better than Paulson's "thing" that i was relieved when I read it, my initial expectation being that Dems would just give Paulson what he asked for. (Which was not a bill, more like a capitulation contract "sign over all power and money below".)
Stirling should have up something more tomorrow. Depending what he writes I may have something as well, we'll see. I also put some comments into the Dodd bill.
Dodd's bill is half a good bill. We need to see about getting the other half into it.
