Marathon Bombing counter-narrative: The brothers were patsies

Via Sibel Edmonds. If we could crowd-source some linky goodness in there, it wouldn't be CT any more, but informed speculation. I realize this reinforces The Special -- relations between people mediated by media -- but we do what we're good at, no? (Hopefully, we can keep the ground truths going to). I've helpfully added the places that need evidence:

Here is my current best guess as to how this was done. If you listen to the CNN interview of Piers Morgan[1] talking to the mother of the bombers, she is saying that the FBI had been “counselling” him for 5 years, ever since he became involved with “religious politics”. So this went down just like the 7/7 London bombings[2]. The older brother was targeted to begin with because of his Chechen origen. He was recruited by the FBI as an informant, and sent to Chechnya to be “sheep dipped”[3], that is to establish his connection with “terrorists” in Chechnya[4]. At this point he was ready to be used as a patsy[5]. He was told that he would be able to help by assisting in a counter-terrorist “drill”[6] that was going to be held during the Boston marathon [7]. The drill was being carried out by Craft International[8]. Craft has a hat with a skull on it and the motto “No matter what your mother told you, violence does solve problems”. Look up Craft International on the Net. Several of these Craft operatives may be seen standing around in many videos of the event [9]. They all wore the same khaki pants and dark jackets and carried backpacks [10]. The patsy was given an identical backpack containing what he thought was a fake pressure cooker bomb and told to place it somewhere as part of the drill [11]. He must have been the most surprised person there when it actually went off. This is exactly the way the 7/7 bombing worked where the young Muslims were asked to participate in a “drill” that went live with real bombs [12]. It’s similar also to the 1993 World Trade Center bombing[13]. It is a standard FBI technnique [14].

Readers, can any of you feel in the blanks?

[2] ________ (on "the 7/7 London bombings").

[3] ________ (definition of "sheep dipped" with example of tradecraft)

[4] ________ (examples of this technique)

[5] ________ (examples of this technique)

[6] ________ (examples of this technique)

[7] And in fact does seem to have been held.

[8] _______ (Craft international recently in the news)

[9] _______ ("these Craft operatives")

[10] _______ ("khaki pants and dark jackets and carried backpacks")

[11] ________ (examples of this technique)

[12] ________ ("This is exactly the way the 7/7 bombing worked")

[13] ________ ("1993 World Trade Center")

[14] ________ ("standard FBI technique")

That's so plausible I think I'll try to find some linky goodness. I'm dubious about two sections: First, Craft International. A small-time operator whose owner recently managed to shoot himself at a gun range? Dubious. Second, the WTC connection. IIRC, there was nothing about a drill there.

What puts this counter-narrative outside the realm of "normal" CT is that so much of it is falsifiable. We don't have to assume, for example, that hundreds of Bostonians are "crisis actors," or anything like that. Open sources and mainstream media are all we need, plus a knowledge of FBI handwriting in similar cases.

And what I like about the "patsy" idea is that it explains some otherwise inexplicable facts on the ground:

Q: Why did the younger brother, who by all accounts was a sweet kid, participate in the action?

A: The FBI used the older brother as a patsy, and the younger brother trusted him.

Q: Why did the younger brother wear a conspicuous white hat, when a child of six knows there are cameras everywhere?

A: Their handlers told them they needed that so they could be tracked.

Q: Why did the brothers not flee the city or the country?

A: They thought they were participating in a training exercise.

Q: Why did the brothers behave like rank amateurs?

A: Because they were.

Q: When did the brothers work out they had been set up?

A: Right before the younger one showed up at the car repair shop and tried to get the Mercedes even though the work on it wasn't being done. NOTE: His legs were shaking, says the car repair shop guy. Again, not a cool professional.

Q: Why didn't the brothers stash a getaway car?

A: Because that wasn't part of the training exercise.

Q: Why did the brothers not kill the carjacked guy, and why did the younger brother not kill the boat guy?

A: Because they weren't killers. NOTE: I'm assuming they didn't shoot the Cambridge cop. There was no evidence, at the time, that they had, and Central Square is a rough area.

Q: What about the IEDs tossed from the car, or the bombs at the Norfolk Street House?

A: Friendly fire, or planted after the fact.

I'm sure there are questions (and answers) that will occur to you.

Nothing wrong with poking skeptically at the official narrative, but I don't follow how this account answers the unanswered questions:

Q: Why did the younger brother, who by all accounts was a sweet kid, participate in the action?

A: The FBI used the older brother as a patsy, and The younger brother trusted [the older brother].

(Occam's razor) The patsy angle is completely unnecessary here; any plausible motivation for the older brother will do for a protasis.

Q: Why did the younger brother wear a conspicuous white hat, when a child of six knows there are cameras everywhere?

I would dispute the missing premise of your enthymeme:

A child of six knows there are cameras everywhere.
[A child of six understands how images will be crowdsourced after the fact to trace his movements based on the least identifiable swatch of clothing and thus improve the odds of his identification, regardless of whether a clear mug shot is obtained in the course of his exposure to those cameras. An identifiable piece of clothing, for the purposes of this investigation, is not one with, for example, a monogram or a high school mascot on it, nor a recognizable favorite shirt, but rather one that is worn infrequently among the people in the target crowd. Knowing the uniforms and styles that the marathon set and their fanbase would select on a sunny race day, this same child of six also knows that a white hat is just the sort of thing that isn't wanted.]
... and therefore
A child of six would not wear a white hat.

Q: Why did the brothers not flee the city or the country?

A: They thought they were participating in a training exercise.

Surely they would have had to know that this was not a training exercise at the time the bombs detonated??

So I don't find that the theory is made more plausible on the ground of this reasoning, at least.

such as wigs for long hair or covering their hair under their caps, etc.

Or, for the 19 year old, just putting the baseball cap on the right way so the cap somewhat hid his features.

I'd remarked to a friend that they seemed to be either oblivious or felt they had no worries about being seen. But, who knows?

My brother said the 19 year old had actually been back to his university visiting classmates on Wed or Thursday!! But I haven't watched TV coverage and saw nothing about that on the web so far (anyone, any corroboration?).

I mean, why not get out of town?

Also, something I hadn't given consideration to -- how did they transport all the explosives to the point where they hijacked a car? And why not video coming out of cop cars of them throwing the explosives at the police? Don't most have cameras nowadays? Since there were so many around, wouldn't one have shown up?

Submitted by lambert on

Yes, I should separate the older brother Q from the younger brother Q (I gave two answers at once!)

On the larger picture, the most implausible thing (to me) is the younger brother's involvement. As you point out, that is an interlocked narrative to another narrative of why they were involved at all (which the patsy argument handles. If the handwriting is there.

On the white hat: I see the point on the "least identifiable" improving the odds for identification -- for professionals. What if we were talking about amateurs doing the identiicaiton through crowd-sourcing? I'm really going on my own reactions here, since as soon as you see that white hat it just jumps out. But I'm also conscious of my own tendency to backfill what I think I know into what I see (or think I see). The Spectacle is insidious.

On "why not flee" you write:

Surely they would have had to know that this was not a training exercise at the time the bombs detonated??

Suppose they were told it was, though. If I were the patsy, I might be paralyzed too. Who coud believe such a thing? Then the delayed realization, then the flight.

up earlier as a person of, oh, interest? Like on Day One???? This is what made me begin to wonder about a false flag operation.

Has quotes from father and mother, both wondering if the sons were used by the FBI.

Also, RT has a video up of an interview with the mother, now living in Russia:

She says the FBI working with her oldest son for 5 years, came to her house, interviewed her, stayed in touch, etc.

Article from RT about Russia demanding FBI make their investigation into Tamerlan public, maybe to prevent US MCM from blaming Russia for the bombing??

Monday's bombings.

FBI may some 'splainin' to do, eh?

From Politico:

Their mother went so far on Sunday to claim that the FBI had contacted her elder son after the deadly bombs exploded at the marathon. If true, it would be the first indication that the FBI considered him a suspect before Boston descended into violence on Thursday.

The FBI declined to comment publicly Sunday.

The mother’s claim could not be independently confirmed, and she has made statements in the past that appeared to show a lack of full understanding of what occurred in Boston.

Investigators released photos and video of the two Tsarnaev brothers on Thursday afternoon, but at that point their identities were not known. By late that night, Tamerlan Tsarnaev was dead.

Tsarnaeva said her elder son told her by telephone that the FBI had called to inform him that they considered him a suspect and he should come in for questioning.

She said her son refused. “I told them, what do you suspect me of?” Tsarnaeva quoted her son as saying. “This is your problem and if you need me you should come to where I am.”

He then told her he was going to drive his younger brother to the university, she said, speaking by telephone from Chechnya. Tsarnaeva claimed that her son later called his wife to tell her they were being chased and fired upon.

Read more:

So, did the son call her on Thursday?

Cell phone calls should be able to be tracked.

From the same Politico article:

Despite the violence in Dagestan, Anzor Tsarnaev said Sunday that his son did not want to leave and had thoughts on how he could go into business. But the father said he encouraged him to go back to the U.S. and try to get citizenship. Tamerlan Tsarnaev returned to the U.S. in July [of 2012].

His mother said that he was questioned upon arrival at New York’s airport.

“And he told me on the phone, `Imagine, mama, they were asking me such interesting questions as if I were some strange and scary man: Where did you go? What did you do there?’” Zubeidat Tsarnaeva recalled her son telling her at the time.

He saw snipers on high buldings, which he'd never seen for a marathon in any large city before. Also there were sniffer dogs around the finish area during the race; that was unusual as well. And, as he put it, the place was crawling with FBI guys. Highly unusual

I came across this early on and then again today, but I can't recall where.

Some sites have been following the appearance of private security guys from Craft --and I see you have a link to that-- who were hanging around the finish area and stayed, but in watching mode, after the detonations. Craft guys were recognizable by their nasty patches (skull and some other things) and their similar military quality dark blue jackets, khaki pants, and similar boots.. There were some plain clothes types, congregated and carrying similar backpacks.

Suddenly, there seemed to be more the story....

Israeli security chief said Israeli bomb investigation squads had been sent to Boston, but, according to the article, the trip had been planned prior to the bombings. There also seemed to have been a bomb drill in Boston, planned for the Marathon area, so that might have been part of why the Israelis would attend?

Submitted by jawbone on

University of Mobile’s Cross Country Coach, who was near the finish line of the Boston Marathon when a series of explosions went off, said he thought it was odd there were bomb sniffing dogs at the start and finish lines.
"They kept making announcements to the participants do not worry, it's just a training exercise," Coach Ali Stevenson told Local 15.

Stevenson said he saw law enforcement spotters on the roofs at the start of the race. He's been in plenty of marathons in Chicago, D.C., Chicago, London and other major metropolitan areas but has never seen that level of security before.
"Evidently, I don't believe they were just having a training exercise," Stevenson said. "I think they must have had some sort of threat or suspicion called in."

CNN reports a state government official said there were no credible threats before the race.

Stevenson had just finished the marathon before the explosions. Stevenson said his wife had been sitting in one of the seating sections where an explosion went off, but thankfully she left her seat and was walking to meet up with him.

"We are just so thankful right now," Stevenson said.

I'm pasting the entire article as small stations tend to take down articles rather quickly. There's video as well.

... but since 7/7 is debunked, it falls apart; the pattern or signature is not there. The discrepancies remain, but this idea can't be the explanation.

The difficulty here is that the FBI really does do stuff like this: See Mother Jones here. And Mother Jones... I mean, they publish Kevin Drum. Quite middle of the road.

We're merely set ups to make arrests. No bombs went off nd no attacks ever happened.
Just want to make sure Corrente is not asserting that the FBI helped to plant actual bombs at the marathon.
That's False Flag Alex Jones stuff and this site is way too good for that....

guys move temporarily from military to CIA command, as for the Bin Laden take out in Pakistan, where they could not operate legally as soldiers so had to be made short term special CIA agents.

Heard this in the past week or so, on a public radio talk show. Leonard Lopate Show, WNYC--

Pulitzer Prize–winning reporter Mark Mazzetti gives an account of the transformation of the CIA and America’s special operations forces into man-hunting and killing machines around the world. In The Way of the Knife: The CIA, a Secret Army, and a War at the Ends of the Earth, Mazzetti tells the story of that shadow war, a campaign that has blurred the lines between soldiers and spies.

Lots of entries for "sheep dipping CIA" from google.

Did you come across it to mean getting a US agent into a radical or terrorist group just enough to be able to tie that group to some kind of terrist action? Hhhmmm.... Interesting.

Some people mentioned that the younger boy got his citizenship in 2012 -- would that be about the right time for a youngster coming legally to be given citizenship? Or is it turning18? Anyway, some suggested it was a reward for working with the FBI.

for citizenship at the same time in 2012. The process for citizenship takes years after one gets the right visa to come to the U.S. The date of citizenship eligibility has nothing to do with one's age and everything to do with when one entered the country and met all benchmarks for citizenship.

The older brother, the article says, was denied citizenship because of his arrest on domestic violence charges.

My reaction to all of this is along the lines of my reaction to the linking of "Is missing student Sunil Tripathi Marathon Bomber #2?" at NC (as I stated in the comments there).

More information on the trajectory of the brothers (and details of FBI contact with Tamerlan Tsarnaev) will be of interest, but as far as the CT here....

I think Tamerlan Tsarnaev was a troubled/alienated young man, as evidenced by his arrest for domestic abuse, statements that he had no American friends, his YouTube page, etc. Though one shouldn’t make too many inferences from a person’s selection of reading material, I think there are even hints of potential issues in his Amazon wishlist (from 6-7 years ago) – some of the items:

[In addition there are books on the Chechen conflict (e.g. "Allah's Mountains: The Battle for Chechnya"), etc. Incidentally, if you ask anyone from the South Caucasus/Russia, they’ll note the extremely strong Chechen organized crime subculture, permeating everywhere – perhaps relevant to the choice of Mafia books. IMO largely a largely a consequence of repeated dislocation/social disruption – first the wholesale expulsion of the Chechen population from Chechnya under Stalin – classified as an act of genocide by the European Parliament, then the more recent brutal wars with Russia.]

I tend to largely buy the interpretation that the younger brother was basically a hapless pothead who idolized his older brother and followed him into this.

LA Times:
Tamerlan Tsarnaev was thrown out of the mosque -- the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center -- about three months ago, after he stood up and shouted at the imam during a Friday prayer service, they said. The imam had held up slain civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. as an example of a man to emulate, recalled one worshiper who would give his name only as Muhammad.
Enraged, Tamerlan stood up and began shouting, Muhammad said.
“You cannot mention this guy because he’s not a Muslim!” Muhammad recalled Tamerlan shouting, shocking others in attendance.
“He’s crazy to me,” Muhammad said. “He had an anger inside.… I can’t explain what was in his mind.”

Though there may be more to emerge about the FBI surveillance and its handling of the case, no deep CT is required here.

I largely agree with this perspective, and this as well.

Link goes to commenter BostonScrod, April 20, 2013 at 3:42 am, which is interesting (and I see you read it and commented). But read the whole string of comments.

And lots of linky goodness from Yves.

I'm getting more and more interested in the people the 19 year old was hanging out with, who, it seems, helped him to either earn money or gave it to him or gave him expensive new clothing, shoes. A mention is made of them being Turkish and possibly connected with Carriage Ave (Place?) address. Girlfriend? Others? A silver van took two women away after the US authorities had been gone for about half an hour after they'd visited the location. Somewhere I saw a photo of a young white man handcuffed and standing outside one of the black government vehicles, who, iirc, was taken away for questioning by US authorities. But lots of info is not firm as of even now.

Another comment by Yonatan at Yves' link:

Yonatan says:
April 20, 2013 at 10:11 am

The small size of their backpacks puzzled me too. An article in the Dail Mail has a couple of photos of one bomb location – one before and one after an explosion. The before shot shows a very large package on the ground to the left of a post box. It looks far too large for the backpacks the Chechens were carrying. A large pressure cooker packed with explosive and metal would be a a noticeably heavy load. The backpack would sink down the body fully tensioning the shoulder straps.

Daily Mail's long article has many photos, among which are mangled top of pressure cooker found on roof of hotel among others:

Comparison photos of light colored backpack before:

And after. There are no visible remnants of the light colored bag, which was placed near the street, by a mail box (very strong mail box!):

The comment that the backpacks would be very heavy and also rounded out and pulling the bottom down are on point, however, for determining whether the two brothers were actually carrying bombs. Yonatan doesn't see enough weight or shape in the brothers' backpacks to prove they were carrying the bombs.

Thanks to all for input and links.

We can be sure we will be given ONLY official information which supports whatever the Powers That Be want us to know about.

Again, think about The Central Park Five....and if you haven't watched the documentary, see if it's coming on again on your local PBS station. Plus I think it's available on line, but not sure. And have to run! (Well, gimp/limp....)

scheduled for the Boston Marthon (unannounced) -- there'd been some kind of drill on 9/11 which meant most of the military flights were cancelled and squads were standing down, iirc. I never did figure out why a drill meant no flights ready to take off....

It seemed like an awful coincidence.

It seems highly skeptical of government statements, uses Glenn Beck, some sites I'm not familiar with, but also seems to have interesting news. Libertarian of some sort?

Just scroll down for more on Boston.

From today, a link to Mirror article on FBI hunting "12 -strong sleeper cell."

A source close to the investigation said: “We have no doubt the brothers were not acting alone. The devices used to detonate the two bombs were highly sophisticated and not the kind of thing people learn from Google.

“They were too advanced. Someone gave the brothers the skills and it is now our job to find out just who they were. Agents think the sleeper cell has up to a dozen members and has been waiting several years for their day to come.”

Here's a permalink to post on 4/20 about effect of No Miranda:

Here is post showing Tamerlan being arrested, walking to a car buck naked after being ordered to remove all clothing, handcuffed in back, getting into police car. Permalink:

Link to article:

Second video in post has reporter describing what he saw then and after when FBI arrived. Tamerlan was ordered out of car, now having some clothing on, taken over to a wall where photos were taken and he was interviewed for several minutes. He was not burned or showing signs of any severe wounds.

[For those with strong stomachs, Tamerlan's corpse photo: ]

Oh, my. Looks like we may have had an edited version of how he died. or at least various versions. Now, it's his younger brother driving to get away who is said to have run over his brother and killed him as police scatter to get away from the oncoming car.

Now, I'm bad at determining what's going on in videos, esp'ly in the dark. But the reporter speaking later says it sure looked like Tamerlan.

I'd appreciate sharper eyes and those with screens with more definition checking these out.

OK, now I'm really late....have a great day! Sunny here in northern suboonia NJ, temp 50, going up to 54.

I'm so confused about the actual narrative (which has shifted so much I'm dizzy), I can't really think about counter narratives. I think we're still within that "everything we know is wrong" window but (with that warning) Here's CNN's summary of the week.

There's no attempt to answer questions (but reporters don't really do that anymore, do they?)

Ditto dat. Whatever the counter-narrative may be, under the dictum of 'never let a good crisis go to waste', I think the corporate fascism bent government is using the incident to prime us for the encroaching police state. Drones overhead. Heavily armed men kicking down your front door, terrorizing you in the hunt for terrorists. "Get used to it. And make no false moves or we'll blow your freakin head off and kill your children."

Weez all Afghanis now.

Is it all about controlling oil/gas, access and transit of oil/gas?

Not to say the US is behind whoever did this bombing, but we've done such things as backing the enemies of our enemies who then turn on us.

after explosions?

Different people?

Also, photos of blown up black backpack seem closer to backpacks of the paramilitary or private security type guys than of the brothers'....

Again, someone with better hi def screen, maybe larger screen might get better idea of what's in these photos.

Just askin' because really curious.

Thnx for input.

After all, we do not always get the actual facts from our governments. I'm still amazed that eye witness and forensic evidence from RFK's assassination just came out, what, during the past year? So, consider me skeptical.

I'm really sorry I've missed almost all of the Boston bombing stories (busy elsewhere; huge gap now in my cultural consciousness), but if someone is doing high-def screen photo inspections, Daveparts had a diary on FDL a couple days ago that I drove by: -- his point seems to be that he suspects the brothers were photoshopped into pix.

I didn't join in, but I did appreciate the Shakespeare he closed with:

Not sure it's true in this case.

And don't they try to swoop in before the trigger gets pulled?

Also, these guys are just so amatuer. I'm not sure whether that's frightening, or even more frightening, if you see what I mean.

I also keep seeing stories about the CIA and the Russians sniffing about them, along with the FBI we already know about. Could one of those services was trying to play them for patsies, even if we don't know which one? Then they'd all cover for each other out of professional courtesy. Ha ha ha ha!
