Leader Nance rolls over, calls Stark "inappropriate"

AP:

Pelosi Rebukes Fellow Democrat

Nice work, Nance. Couldn't you save it for the Republicans? Stark said:

"You don't have money to fund the war or children," Stark accused Republicans. "But you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people if we can get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the president's amusement."

After numerous Republicans called on him to apologize, Stark said it was they who should be apologizing, for failing to provide the votes to override Bush's veto.

Exactly right. They should apologize. And as MJS points out, "amusement is as amusement does." Bush was amused by blowing up frogs, and electrocuting prisoners. Why the heck wouldn't blowing up kids amuse Mr. "Feels Good"?

Anyhow, here's Leader Nance's sternly worded statement:

"Yesterday’s debate in the House to override the President’s veto of bipartisan legislation to cover 10 million children was heated on both sides. While Members of Congress are passionate about their views, what Congressman Stark said during the debate was inappropriate and distracted from the seriousness of the subject at hand – providing health care for America’s children.”

We try to reserve the word "President" for actual, Constitutional officers. Eh? But put that aside:

When will the Beltway Dems learn this simple rule:

Never, ever apologize to a Republican!

Apologies only embolden them. And since the Republicans, whatever their other failings might be, are brilliant at ginned up faux outrage and propagating it through our famously free press, apologies only put Democrats in a perpetually passive, reactive mode. Which is the object of the exercise, of course.

Apologizing to Republicans is like negotiating with terrorists. Don't do it!

NOTE I'm waiting for Nance's Sister Souljah moment, where she earns a hearty round of temporary and soon forgotten applause by trashing the strongest supporters of Democrats. Any minute now.

NOTE Yeah, it's great to stay on message. Rebuking a Democrat in public isn't the way to do party discipline.

UPDATE According to Tennessee Guerilla Woman, Stark is the only avowed athiest in the Congress. My respect for him goes up another notch.

to piss me off. I mean, fucking crazed.

I can really only think of a string of obscenities to describe my feelings. Maybe because Nance & Harry are so fucking obscene.

You think I'm just a noisy, complaining liberal.

You think I'm irrational, unschooled in the ways of realpolitik.

You think I'm marching to the orders of foul-mouthed bloggers.

You think I'm a marginal dirty hippy whose opinion can be ignored and discarded.

I am a middle-class, democratic voter, married with two kids. I am a church goer. I am educated and follow politics very closely. I have a real job, and everything. I (used to) regularly donate to Democrats.

Please stand up to Bush.

Please stand up to Bush.

Please stand up to Bush.

He is the most hated President in our history. All we're asking is that you stand up to him on 1) Iraq, 2) Torture, and 3) Gutting the Constitution.

If you do this, you will be praised by grateful Democrats everywhere. Your approval ratings will rise. But more than this, standing up to Bush has the virtue of being the right thing to do.

If you would stop attacking Democrats, like Pete Stark, that would be awfully nice, too.
