Is Olbermann Turning Into O'Reilly?

Via The Sideshow,

limerick:
In the past I cheered Olbermann’s rants—
Loved his anti-war, anti-Bush stance.
But misogynous bluster
Is all he can muster
In Olbermann’s mirror-romance.

Yup. It's worse because Olbermann ought to know

better, liberal that he pretends to be, than to claim sexism doesn’t exist among his colleagues. Like many at MSNBC, he’s yet another Hillary hater for whom nothing — lies, sexism, demagoguery — is beyond the pale.

funny limerick

more linky goodness at The Sideshow.

What do you mean?

“Turning”?

devastating NYer quote--

“… But, just as Obama must work to win Clinton supporters for the fall campaign, Phil Griffin has to repair a fractured audience base, a portion of which saw sexism in his network’s Clinton coverage and vowed to boycott MSNBC. Griffin knows that some of that anger is aimed at his star anchor. “It was, like, you meet a guy and you fall in love with him, and he’s funny and he’s clever and he’s witty, and he’s all these great things,” Griffin said of the relationship between Olbermann and the Clinton supporters among his viewers. “And then you commit yourself to him, and he turns out to be a jerk and difficult and brutal. And that is how the Hillary viewers see him. It’s true. But I do think they’re going to come back. There’s nowhere else to go.” …” — http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/…

Funny thing...

I’ve been meditating a post on “nowhere else to go” for a couple of days, now. I’ll try to finish it up.

Nowhere to go?

What about MHz Networks, with news and information around the world?

What about the Internet?

these guys still live in a world where they think there are 3 networks plus PBS. There are plenty of places to go.

The internet became a lot smaller during this campaign

With most of the leftysphere growing incredibly hostile to [not-Obama] Democrats.

Yes and no

after all, the Confluence came out of nowhere to have thousands of readers. Lefty blogosphere is fracturing.

don't miss the way he told his bosses no

when they told him to stop the hateful ranting against Hillary in the article.

amberglow, you mean this quote?

At MSNBC, Phil Griffin was worried, and with good reason. The average “Countdown” viewer is fifty-nine years old, and forty-five per cent of the viewers are women, presumably Democratic—a fair description of a Hillary Clinton supporter. Griffin believed that Olbermann was beginning to alienate his core audience, and asked him to ease up a bit on Clinton, and possibly even make some conciliatory gesture to the Clinton camp. Olbermann was offended by the suggestion. “I can’t do that!” he says, recalling that conversation. “Me doing a commentary against my own opinion is pandering. Black and white. And I’m not going to do it. Would I pull back a little bit, or think long and hard about whether or not I want to knowingly alienate part of the audience? Yeah. And I did. I mean, I held fire on Senator Clinton for quite a while after she began to really scare me, with some of these tactics.”

I think Olbermann could use some Anger Management training.

My email to Griffiths

I just read VP Phil Griffiths comments in The New Yorker. Damn straight he’s lost K.O. viewers! I was heartened to know that I’m not the only one offended by Keith’s vitriol and propagation of the “Why Won’t That Bitch Quit” meme. Pretending to be the liberal voice of the media. (Yeah, he’s definitely a partisan and stopped being a journalist long ago in favor of being a polemicist.) Choosing sides, hmmm, right after the Schuster debacle. It looked pissy and immature. And it certainly did not help his cause—electing Obama. I stopped watching him because every night he unloaded on Hillary Clinton instead of on the current Republican administration. Again, I’m so glad that I’m not alone in this reaction.

Mr. Griffiths echoes the Obama campaign in believing that eventually everything will be OK and older female Clinton supporters will “come home.” Using KO’s own rhetorical device: Don’t you dare condescend to me, sir. True, I may have to choose between the lesser of two evils come November. But Mr. Griffiths is correct in saying that I don’t have to watch KO any longer or support his sponsors. Both the Obama camp and KO, in ignoring my demographic and taking its support for granted, made a grave error. So sayanara, toodles, goodnight and goodluck.

Slightly O/T, I used to watch the Daily Show every night

But they took too many cheap shots at Hillary, and I lost the habit. Maybe I’ll come back to them, now that it’s Dem vs. McCain. But probably not until it’s TDS vs. the 44th Pres.

If someone’s being abused, it’s not very funny to pile on. I can stand and can dish out a little black humor, but just hurling the same crap that misogynists and hacks are is a major turn-off.

I lost the TV news habit years ago. Air America can kiss my ass, etc., etc.

I’m all for these kinds of boycotts/girlcotts.

Stewart, Colbert jumped the shark

With Stewart, he tipped his hand when he mocked Clinton for claiming media bias and edited clips to paint Clinton in the worst possible light, usually at the expense of reality. The last butchered editing I watched was back in March: Stewart ran a clip of Clinton praising Obama during the TX debate and then one of her telling him, “Meet me in Ohio!”—all without the context of her denouncement (Obama continuing to push Harry & Louise ads and other UHC smears)— to imply that Clinton was somehow mental.

I knew a line was crossed when Colbert, who I always thought was better than Stewart, pushed the “Clinton ’smeared’ Obama on 60 Minutes!” bullshit. Since then I haven’t watched either nor will I. They both came off as hacks.

If someone’s being abused, it’s not very funny to pile on.

my feelings precisely. I got cable just to watch TDS. Now I am down to Meerkat Manor.

Ah, understood

Since a URL with no site is a meme generator, the Confluence has no readers.

Alrighty then.
