LIEBERMAN: I want to indicate today to my colleagues that Senator Coburn and I are working again on a bipartisan proposal to secure Social Security over the long term, we hope to have that done in time. To also forward to the special committee for their consideration. So, bottom line, we can’t protect these entitlements and also have the national defense we need to protect us in a dangerous world while we’re at war with Islamist extremists who attacked us on 9/11 and will be for a long time to come. And, do note that "secure SocSec" does indeed mean cutting it.

"how bad the T-party is" re: the debt negotiations, mentioned third-way, posted websites to read about it (one here, BTW, as I recall) referenced BAR, and bam! I became a delusional fringe LWNJ enabling kind of person. One person said "read the stuff" and let's have a conversation, but noooo. Tribalist idiots, all. And then, boom..the "answer" feed from FB was gone, and even without a FB log-in, I can't read or respond to comments..hmmmm.

Edit: but I CAN read the articles, so..I'm saved :-)

why don't we just put all the seniors in the service so they can fight the 'terrists'? Think of the savings! No more lavish Soc Sec payments, just pay us a dollar an hour or whatever ridiculous amount you pay the kids these days. Let them stay home and go to school or ... I was going to say start their careers, but that's clearly not an option. Okay, so just let them go to school and we'll do the fighting.

You don't have to pay us anything. We'll do it for free, since clearly we're going to have to figure out ways to live for free if we stay here and there's no SS, which seems to be your plan. Anyway, it would be an honor to serve. Plus, most of us are feeling pretty battle ready these days, although those feelings would have to be redirected away from Washington. And since we're not really interested in shooting and killing, we probably wouldn't last more than a few minutes on the battlefield. But that's just an added bonus -- you'd get rid of us sooner!! It's win/win/win/win!

Come on and join us, Joe! Surely you wouldn't mind giving up your cushy government retirement benefits, including super-duper health care for the rest of your miserable reptilian life, when you could be making the world safe for Dimocracy and sleaze-bag pols like yourself!
